Re: RCBS Chargemaster

I bought one at an auction about 3 years ago. To be honest I was a bit annoyed when I found it was used, (bid to 80% of new price). I finally got a chance to set it up and use it, loaded about 350 rounds of 223 and 100 rounds of 218 Bee. I'm very happy with its performance. https://i.imgur.com/nFKMI...

https://i.imgur.com/xBa3BS7.jpg?1 Some early season Richardson's Ground Squirrel. This is from a couple weeks ago, the pasture grass is starting to green up now. Got more varminting done in the past 2 weeks than the previous 5 years, glad to be back into the hobby. Rifle is a Remington Rolling Bloc...

Re: Precision tripod for varmints??

I recently purchased several "airsoft" grade bipods in varying styles to see what is most suitable for me. Then when I find what I like, then I'll drop the money on a real one, or else just stick with my Harris. Perhaps some leg extensions that get me into the sitting position will be all ...

Precision tripod for varmints??

Has anyone used a tripod for varmint hunting? I've seen systems used by PRS (and similar style) shooters so it must offer a reasonably accurate platform. While it would be inherently less stable than prone with a bipod it would give the advantage of getting the shooter a couple (or three) feet highe...

Re: Bucket list is about empty 43 winchester heading my way

Very cool I'm a new fan of the 218 Bee. Last spring I was dealing with a guy who had a project gun in this chambering, but was hesitant to "pull the trigger" because I knew the 218 Bee was not a common cartridge to find. Especially since I am in Canada, sourcing oddball items can be prohib...

Re: First of season

Here in Canada the barrel length on a rimfire is not restricted, as long as the overall length exceeds 26" its good to go. Thats the simple answer, there are several caveats that one needs to adhere to but as long as you know the rules and build within them we here in Canada can have some neat ...

First of season

Finally got my first kill on a gopher of this year. http://i.imgur.com/5kII11a.jpg?1 Its still a bit early for this area but been getting anxious seeing others reports. Currently am doing some work for a rancher so I am looking forward to access to new lands as well as first hand knowledge about the...

Re: How important is a "clean" powder?

Another thing to consider, especially with high velocity rounds like the 204 Ruger, is copper fouling; ( though this is more bullet related than powder ). When a barrel gets "dirty" enough that accuracy drops off....... is it carbon fouling from the powder or copper fouling from the bullet...

Re: Barrel Cleaning

I like to use Wipe-Out foaming bore cleaner. When in the field the plan is to start out with a perfectly clean barrel then do a quick cleaning every 50-75 rounds, (occasionally go as many as 100). This usually happens once at mid day since my average is 75 to 150 rounds in a day of centerfire. Just ...

Re: FFP Reticles

I recently purchased my most costly optical purchase to date. Was wanting a Varmint/target scope to last a lifetime and in my research I learned about FFP vs SFP. At this time it seems like the FFP is the most popular so I naturally assumed it was somehow superior but after doing my research I learn...

Black Hills brass

I just ordered a couple boxes of Black Hills Ammo. The 36 grain Barnes Varmint Grenade in .223, (hope my barrel likes it). The plan is to find a decent factory load and then stock up and shoot it this season. Then I will have a good supply of brass (aim for 700-1000 brass) and can get serious about ...

Re: Electronic scale with RCBS Explorer kit

Any chance that you have a friend or family member on the US side of the border that could be shipped to? May not be a big deal but, it may help. I had forgotten about that, thanks for the reminder. Have family in Oregon and WA so I might get them to order me a few items from Sinclair International...

Re: Electronic scale with RCBS Explorer kit

Well I do know that buying a kit now versus what I really hope to end up with will have me duplicating several items and cost me extra money in the long run. However to purchase right now my "ideal/dream collection" ...it would cost a couple thousand dollars. For now I hope to get the basi...

Electronic scale with RCBS Explorer kit

After several years away from the reloading bench I am in the process of getting back into it. With the current CDN dollar and my lower personal finances it means I will be taking it one step at a time. The good news is that I learned a lot in my first journey into reloading as I went from a budget ...

Re: Leupold VX2 6-18

The Leupold VX-II 6-18 was my first optic purchase of decent quality. At the time I somewhat felt like my limited funds (was a college student) were being wasted on a scope "that cost darn near as much as the rifle". After using it in the field I never regretted it once. I found it to be t...
