Re: Big bullet drop

My thinking is it could be a busted reticle. When my Nikon scope reticle blew out several years ago it acted in a similar fashion. Of course, a busted reticle can probably act in any possible manner, but nonetheless it would rule it out and if it's functioning properly one can get a true measure of ...

Re: Big bullet drop

Have you done a box test with the scope at 100 yards [since it seemed to shoot good at that distance]? If not I would try that, could be a scope issue.

Re: .20 Caliber Fun in the Rat Patch

RIO & Rat Force One...some nice looking scenery. Happy to hear not all the fields have been turned over to a guide or a land manager. As always, some nice looking hardware. Rick, I'm happy you found another companion, Lucy was always fun to be around in the camp after a day in the field. Hope to...

Re: Stuck bolt in AR15

The option is to purchase a set of precision shell holders made by Redding. The come in like five to a set with each one with different setting that allows either more or less of the case to be inserted up inside the sizing die.

It may not be required but something to consider.

Re: Stuck bolt in AR15

I'm ordering an L.E. Wilson headspace gage tomorrow and can check all my ammo before putting it in the gun. Good choice. Incidentally, when those rounds were extracted were there any marks on the brass and/or the bullets? When you get your case gage set your sizing die up per the instructions of th...

Re: Load Development

Hi Rick...were those the tipped or hollow-point Varmageddons? If I could ever get my hands on the "tipped" version I'd try them out. To the OP: Another area where one can burn components chasing accuracy is the OAL. With magazine fed rifles I will set a certain length a few thousands below...

Re: Load Development

Don't get disappointed yet. That 32 gr. Varmageddon was the most accurate in my 700 Rem. VLS. Shot a.169 group with BLC(2). Every gun is different. Keep testing to find the best load in your gun, it may not be anything like anybody else's. Have fun and good luck. That's exactly right. I gave these ...

Re: Load Development

I follow pretty much what Rick reported; - Pick a compatible bullet and powder for both the purpose and the rifle. Hopefully, its one that I have already and if not, one that’s available. ;) - The same goes for cases; and I prep them ahead of time before firing the first shot. - For the primer I hav...

Re: Bullet seating depth

For magazine fed rounds I'll pay attention to COAL but if they're single shots with long throats as all of my 204's are I just pick the MAX COAL and set the dues to it and tweak the loads around it.

Re: Bullet seating depth

Jim W, are these guns with long measurements where the bullet falls out the case known as long throats or freebore? What is the correct terminology? All my Remington's except my 5R .223 Milspec are like this. I think most of the factory rifles made today are like this, correct? Thanks, Jim D My 204...
