Re: 204 Ruger, which factory rifle?

I have two of them in 221 Fireball just like yours [one has a fluted barrel] and I really enjoy both of them.

Re: Tell us about yourself...

All I can add is; if you like your 221 Fireballs, you'll love a 20VT. I remember Rick promoting this caliber on here close to 20 years ago. I remember saying to myself; how can this be better than a 204 Ruger. We'll, he was right, very similar performance with 1/3 less of a powder charge. I can shoo...

Re: Midsouth Shooters sale

On this note, I was in a local Bass Pro a couple of weeks back and low & behold, some 39gr SBK on the shelf. They were pricey but its the first ones I've seen in quite a while in a store. I see Hornady 20 cal from time to time but rarely any one else's. Regarding Alliant Powders, I haven't seen ...

Re: turned quiet

Nice looking handgun Rick. I know what you mean about adding another to the fold. May just spring it yet. However never do use the old credit card, I only carry one and use it instead of checks. But never on weapons. always cash or cashier's check, depending and where I buy. :D I'm getting to the p...

Re: turned quiet

Rick...that 45 200gr bullet use to be quite popular amongst the Bullseye shooters. I have several 500 round boxes of them and when shot with Bullseye and later, Winchester WST produced some pretty groups out to 50 yards. The other popular bullet was the 185 SWC. I too have held on to old reloading p...

Re: turned quiet

Rick...I agree with Bill and you, there is something about the older firearms in terms of quality and craftsmanship. My model 41 is an older model that came with both the 5 1/2" and 7 1/2" barrels and in the same type of box you have and they haven't used that style of box in decades. It f...

Re: turned quiet

Rick...dunno if you recall but on the last trip we went on together I brought along my S&W Model 41 and I've used it on all of my rat trips. I can hit them pretty consistent out to 100 yards using target load ammunition. The problem at that distance it may take a couple of shots to put their lig...

Re: American Predator

I saw a couple of boxes of 39 SBK today at Bass Pro in Tacoma WA. they were $40/100. I didn't need any so I left them there but finding any 20 cal pill on the shelfs these days is a rare event for me.

Re: American Predator

I've had good luck with a variety of powders; H4895, Varget, RL-15, RL-10x, Benchmark, 8208-XBR just to mention a few. My 204's; the Remington 700 shoots the 40 VMAX ok but not near as good as the 39 SBK. My CZ 527 shoots both of them very well.

Re: Bears and Handguns

Interesting story. I know this comes up from time-to-time and I guess many calibers will do the job but with respect to ammunition, two important factors will come into play [IMO] bullet placement and bullet performance [penetration]. I would imagine a good & heavy hard cast lead pill would do t...

Re: Morning Rockchuck Walkabout

Well now Rick, talk about a trip down memory lane. That was the best multi-day trip I ever went on where all days were productive for our entertainment but not so much for ole' skippy. I went looking back through my pictures and I came up with a few myself: Crossing the pass eastbound: IMG_5045.JPG ...

Re: Morning Rockchuck Walkabout

Rick...can't think of a better way to start the day ;) You bet it is, Jim. Even better than a cup of high-test coffee to get the juices flowing. After I packed up my gear into my truck and headed home, not 400 yards from my house I spot this guy checking me out from his den: https://imagizer...

Alliant Powders Suspended Shipments Of Smokeless Powders For Reloading

O picked this up on the wire today. It may or may not impact some of us in the near future but its possible it could in the long haul as supplies tighten up if this plays out.
