Re: Do your CZ's shoot better...?

My 223 527 Varmint started shooting 40 vmax immediately with capability of .1 and .2's. I tried a dozen different loads that shot patterns instead of groups. Two friends had the same experience with the 50 and heavier bullets. After about 500 rounds I loaded up some 50 gr speer's with Benchmark and ...

Re: 1 in 11 twist

I have a 1-10 pacnor barrel chambered in 20 TAC. It shoots 32 and 40 gr. VMAX quite well. The 40's have an edge, but the 32 will shoot in the high 2's and 3's.

Re: New rifle

Nothing is more frustrating than fliers. I have 6 varmint guns and two with PacNor barrels. I find the biggest enemy I have is ME. I just need trigger time to set my consistency of doing the same thing each time. Then I need patience, and cannot shoot well on targets If I feel hurried. I usually fin...

Re: Tackling Scope Cant

I'm with Rick on the level on the scope. I sometimes shoot chucks over the hood of my Jeep and it is extremely difficult to tell if the crosshairs are plumb, without a level on the rifle. Sometimes on the portable bench, when changing angles I run into the same thing. Nowdays, what I do is attach my...

Re: CZ 527 American, opinions.

Glen, I have the composite varmint in 223, a friend has one just like it and another friend has an American. All three of them will shoot vmax into 1/4" at 100. But, it has been almost a year until I could get a load to shoot 50's and 55's. After about 500 rounds, mine now will shoot loads that...

Re: Zeroing in?

When you start discussing sighting in and twist, I use a PacNor barrel on a Mini Mauser chambered in 20 TAC. It has a 1-10 twist and shoots equally as well with both the 32 and 40 gr. Vmax bullets. I can run the 40's at 3750 fps without straining. Use Benchmark powder and sight in dead on at 100 yar...

Re: Hungry Chucks?

Varmint Laser, I was doing some late season chuck hunting last sunday morning. I shot one off a rock and watched him fall. In the course of an hour +, I shot three more from my same location. I swear, each of the latter three had their heads in the same area as the fallen one. I thought of your post...

Re: Hungry Chucks?

I have been hunting them since '91 and have never seen them eating or even looking at a dead one. I certainly do believe you, but have noticed live chucks never pay any attention to the dead ones. I have heard it said by others, but was always skeptical until you witnessed it. I have seen sage rats ...

Re: Skippy and the handcart company

One of my very good friends, has come up with something that really fools the rats. He bought a 2 man foldable blind. He strickly shoots a 10/22 and says it really fools them. He attested he has had his best shoots since using the blind. I think he paid less than $100 for his. He shoots long range w...

Fun thursday and friday

I made it to S. Central Oregon on wednesday. I had commitments each morning and did not get to start hunting chucks until noon. Forgot my camera, so the story will have to do. I used a 204 chambered in a 700 and a Sako 243. Part of our hunting is in a bowl of 100 acres or so. As in the past years, I...

Re: 204 with 2200 powder

I have developed some loads using 2200 in the 204 and 20 Tac. In fact, I use only 2200 in the 20 TAC. I regularly load 24.4 grains in the TAC so I think it would be safe to assume starting at 25 grains and increse by .02 tenths. I have shot some in the 204, up to 26 grains without pressure signs. My...

Re: Which .204 to buy...CZ-USA or Savage?

This is a rather late post on this subject. My personal experience with the CZ Varmint in 223. On both of the CZ's, the composite stock was made too thin. The magazine box was contacting the action hard, before the BA was firmly in the stock. In both cases, I had to remove steel from the top of the ...

Re: 20vt and woodchucks

I used the 204 at 3800 fps loading last year for Rock Chucks. I never had a one of them make it back to their den. Most of my shots were 200-300 yards. I shot over 50 of them in two trips. Using the 32 Vmax. It does not launch them like a 243, but they just collapse on the spot. I think Rick is gett...

Re: Spring Varmints & 204's (Pics)

Hey Rick, heading out in the morning for Burns. Looks like we might get a day or so of good shooting. Taking the Tac 20 along with my Hornet. Hoping we don't get blown off the fields.
