Re: Does this scope exist?
You can find a scope that trips your trigger, then check to see if Kenton Industries makes custom turrets for that model (presuming the scope's manufacturer doesn't make one).

Re: accuracy vs velocity
...how would getting a chronograph tighten my groups up? The higher your load's SD, the more disproportionally your groups will open up as range increases. Because gravity affects everything exponentially with respect to time, unless two bullets have exactly the same Time of Flight (meaning they be...

Re: Savage ?
I have a Savage 12 Varminter Low Profile in .204.
Con: It's heavy.
Pro: It shoots like this:
And those, BTW, were shot @200 yards. The larger of the two measures 5/16" C-C.

Re: Thumbler Tumbler?
I have a Model B I use for tumbling brass and coating bullets. Works great, very sassified with it.

Re: velocity and twist
I've seen this "discussed" in a number of different forums but I never have seen an "empirical" answer offered. So I'm going to swim upstream and say you might gain velocity. Further confining the bullet increases the pressure behind it. More pressure = higher temperature (ideal ...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
Your case capacity is only 0.3 grains more than my largest. That is little enough that tiny differences in the brass itself, not your chamber, could account for it. I wasn't implying you had a sloppy big chamber, just not a tight chamber. The manufacturers tend to use tight chambers in their proofin...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
Getting QL to match a single load's range data is not a problem. All you need do is change the burning rate factor until your charge weight matches the MV that QL predicts and Bob's your uncle! The sticky bit comes when you try to use the predictions from a single set of QL variables to match the ra...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
Provided your chrono is giving you good numbers, I tend to agree. I have an old, old copy of QL, v3.0 upgraded twice to v3.4. Because of that, most of these pressure errors I write off to its old age. Presuming you have v3.6, I wouldn't expect Pmax to be that far off. When my QL's pressure predictio...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
Tony, I hope you'll excuse me making assumptions on your behalf but I'm left wondering if you might have judged your max charge weight a bit too conservatively. I know a lot of folks loading for .204 and, in my experience, it is rare to find someone who has fixed their "tested" max charge ...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
bigt73, one of the quirks of my (very old) copy of QuickLoad is that the pressure predictions sometimes are wildly off the mark. Strangely, it doesn't seem to affect the accuracy of the MV predictions. I reckon pressure and velocity must use separate and independent logic circuits. I don't generally...

Re: 32 Gr Nosler (204)??
Most of mine are black, but that's because they're coated with WS2. I opened a fresh box that was in my TEOTWAWKI stash and they're a very red shade of maroon.

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
It isn't really a problem unless it produces piercing. Unfortunately, you're already there.
You need a machinist/gunsmith who can "bush" the firing pin hole to reduce the tolerance.
Is it a bolt gun? With an 18" barrel, I took it for an AR.

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
I tried the max published load of X-terminator for a 40-gr V-max with the 39-gr SBK and got 3338 fps. But calculated Pmax was 8000 psi under SAAMI max px. I suspect QL doesn't have a very accurate burn rate factor for the X-terminator.

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
What pressure signs were you seeing? The firing pin hole in the bolt face of many .204 rifles has sloppy tolerances and produces an early onset of cratering. I have a Savage .204 that craters the primers on every factory load I've shot in it. Using your case capacity and the 39-gr SBK, I get 3264 fp...
