My recollection now is that the host farmers required rim fire rifles to shoot on their property. Those little squirrels were ...

Re: 17 HMR Which one?

Right now, finding any 17HMR ammo seems to be the biggest problem, not finding a nice HMR rifle...... :? There was a time when I did this was doing quite well and therefore after the first term of you know who when ammo supply came back decided to stock up. So I bought five bricks each of premium 2...

Re: Leupold vs Nightforce

There is no doubt in my military mind that Night Force builds a fine scope. Having said that, there is more to the scope procurement equation than just the optic. Such items as warranty and service availability need to be considered as well. Also was far as price is concerned, I think is a good rule...

Leupold Delta Point sight added to 1911 pistol

Yesterday, I visited the Kesselring shop in Burlington and had Don Kesselring install the subject site onto my 1911 pistol. Today I used a Leupold optical device to zero it and will visit the range to shoot it more. If it works out, and I expect it will my plan is to purchase another one for my 629 ...

Re: Recommend me a scope!

Get the best glass you can afford because it greatly reduces eye fatigue. The comments regarding looking thru a scope a good portion of the day are spot on. Regarding Eye fatigue what I believe he's talking about is resolution. When you're looking for fine detail on the target better resolution wil...

Re: Large-objective scopes on Coopers

On the squirrell grounds in western Montana with .17 HMR. Note custom base. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff373/dmci1/VanDe040006_zps82e15aeb.jpg While I tend to agree with Rick regarding objective size, I tend to favor 34 mm tube for one simple reason. Going from a 30 mm to a 34 mm to provide...

Re: New Leopold binocular's from Cabela's

You have an excellent point Rick. I generally however depend on the spelling police to correct mine, which often extends below the line. And I was incorrect in my other post, for now I have also acquired a 10 x 50 Leupold binoculars which actually really quite good. I also note on visiting a Kesselr...

Re: scope mounts for new cooper

Hey Rick I can only hope it looks that nice and shoots that good. Thanks J-Rat Rick does do a decent job with his photography. I have a other hand being a rank amateur am not capable of generating such wonderful photography. However, having said that I include for the record a picture of my Cooper ...

New Leopold binocular's from Cabela's

Yesterday, I purchased from Cabela's new Leopold BX-3 MOJAVE 10X42 waterproof binoculars. You may ask why I did that, when you know that I prefer LEICA. The answer to that can be summed up in one word: Price. Cabela's price for the glass was a little under $400. I would estimate the overall quality ...

Re: shepherd scopes

I have one, a scope reticuled for a .22 RFM on a Browning bolt.

It's OK I guess. A little light in construction with optic on a par with many scopes manufactured in the Orient.

Re: Low Recoil & Big Distance...?

You birds crack me up some times. A thousand yards is quite away out there, but hitting varmints at that range tends to sharpen up your marksmanship. The secret to reduced recoil is increasing the weight of the rifle. I would recommend against 6.5-06 and 6.5-.284 as in my experience the are marginal...

Re: Sonic Cleaner or Tumbler

Industrial Vibratory finishing processes using metal or ceramic media with soap or similar compound is far too agressive for brass and is intended for deburring or precoat surface prep of steel, zinc, and non-ferrous metal parts. For cleaning and polishing of brass, all you need is a minature purpos...

Re: Sonic Cleaner or Tumbler

Brass tends to discolor or be blackened in the storage and shooting process. There is nothing that I like better than having brass which has a new bright and shiny appearance so I clean all brass before processing through reloading. I will add that the big problem with vibratory cleaning is separati...

Re: FFP Reticles

I guess I am the contrarian here. I only use FFP reticles. This is also the system used on most high quality European scopes currently in use by most of the world's military. The chief advantage is that as you change power the scale on the reticle never changes from reality. The benefit is that if y...

Re: Which Leupold scope is right for me?

An excellent choice, one which I highly concur. However, if you are going to carry more than shoot, weight becomes a significant issue. Custom hunting rifles are all about weight, unless you are a marine sniper and don't mind an eighteen pound rifle. Medium power 8x or 14x Vari-X III are always a go...
