Re: Chuck another prawn on the barby

Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. Over on the East Coast it was a miserable cool, windy and wet day. Festivities were planed down at the Local but that costs money and I'm broke after paying for a new custom build rifle. Sorry, not a .204Ruger....just something silly like 6.5x47 Lapua in a Tikk...

Re: varmint nightmare 34 grain .204 bullets

Rick, not quite correct. Yes, down here under the world they are sold as Nosler Shots, half the price of anything else. Come in bulk packages and I would believe perhaps they may be production seconds. Would be nice to hear a factory comment not hear say. In .224 52gr they are Boat Tail HP's, be it ...

Re: Which dies - Lee, Hornady, or RCBS?

For seaters, I prefer the Forster over RCBS, and Wilson over Forster. Wilson requires and arbor press or really strong hands though... For sizers, I prefer any neck sizer over any full length sizer. I use Lee, but have never tried Redding. "Really Strong Hands" .... something wrong here.....

Re: cz 527 shimming

If the back ring or back of the scope is higher than the front then you should be having the opposite problem...ie shooting way too high as it would elevate the muzzle in respect to where you are sighting through the scope. Back being the closest to you, furthest from the muzzle. Think I'm right.......

Re: CZ shooters! What OAL?

Loading a CZ 527 .204R Varmint to fit the magazine or shorter. Still waiting for time to test more seating depths but one lot under magazine length shot the best accuracy. Unfortunately on a farm when the weather is good for load development is also good for catching up with farm work and that's mor...

Re: what is the biggest thing

A 6 Foot tall Kangaroo - Eastern Grey Buck, about 150lbs in weight, that my working dogs had chased into a water hole (Dam). Head shot at 190 yards. One shot and it dropped, 39gr SBK. The .204Ruger was the only firearm I had in the 4WD at the time and no time to delay getting something bigger like a...

Re: cz 527 shimming

If this is the second Scope with the same problem I would be looking very closely at the mounting rings. Either as suggested they are not attached correctly or somehow both rings are not the same height. Something seems very wrong with the Scope Mounting. Perhaps a visit to see someone that has a bi...

Re: loads for berger 35 gr. hp??

Here "Down Under" we are restricted virtually to our own powders produced by ADI and have been through a few different one's that Hodgdon rebadge to Varget, Benchmark, H322 and H4895. So far with the 35gr Bergers I have found the most accurate in my 24" 1:12 Sako 85 .204R is 27.8grs o...

Re: Fox Shooting for Pelts with a .204 Ruger - Minimal Damag

Thanks Dan, just wondered on the distance. Might try a few 39gr SBK's again. The one's I find here are generally 150-200 yds and shy. In fact there was one outside about 10 minutes ago, just got itself a wood duck....could hear the noise and saw it run off in the spotlight. No firearm handy. Just we...

Sth Oz Dan, at what distance ... ????

The Fox looks in good nick too. The country around there looks similar to the terrain here in the better parts.

Re: Neck Lube

If you are using Lee Neck Collet Dies then I agree you don't need lube to size the neck. However if you are using any type of Die with an Expander Ball I would most certainly lube the neck inside at a minimum and of course if you are doing Full Length Sizing Lube is a must. In my view if you have de...

Re: Fox Shooting for Pelts with a .204 Ruger - Minimal Damag

Thanks all for the input. Can't go over 40gr in these 1:12 Twist Barrels, even one of the 40gr tried awhile back looked like it was on the edge of stability and had very poor groups. I think loading down might be the best bet and from the Rabbits shot with the 35gr Berger FBHP's look to be the least...
