Re: 40 grain Berger stabilization

When I was shooting the 204 a lot, I had very good results on paper with the 40 Bergers over 27.6 grs. of 8208 in two different 204's. Also very good results with AR-Comp at 27.2 grs. Both ran about 3,750 fps. Although I shot quite a few coyotes with the 35 Berger with excellent results, I never use...

Re: IMR ENDURON POWDERS

That may all very well be true, but the current shortage began immediately after the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. Until that time there was no trouble finding most any powder that one would want. Perhaps the State Dept. only began the import restrictions in 2012, post Sandy Hook, I don't know, but t...

Re: IMR ENDURON POWDERS

My opinion is I'd like for Hodgdon to get the powders they already produce to become available as they once were rather than coming out with more powders, especially in view of the fact these new powders have jumped the price for 8 lbers. from $20-30. These powder shortages are beginning to appear t...

Re: anybody know about RE-15 ?

I've had real good results shooting AR-Comp in two 204's. Has done really well with 39 sbk's, 40 vmax, 40 berger, and 35 berger. Accuracy is good, velocity is good, and ES is good. I haven't tried it much with 32's yet as I usually shoot 8208 with them and also with the 35 bergers. AR-Comp is suppos...

Re: 39SBK vs 32Vmax FPS results

Haven't shot RE-10x in a while but my records show 3,725 ave. fps with 39 sbk's, using Win Brass and load of 25.3 gr. out of a 22" barrel Savage with 1x12 twist. Group averages came out to just over .6.

Re: 204 Ruger

If it helps any, I was keeping my 32's about 3,900-3,950 fps. Hope you find a good combination.

Re: 204 Ruger

If you put the 32 vmax or zmax where it is supposed to be on a coyote, it will kill them DRT. I shot enough last winter to know that for a fact and not an opinion. If you hit a shoulder then you may very well make a mess, but you can also do that with 39 sbk's. As you well know, called coyotes don't...

Re: 204 Ruger

The 32 vmax will kill coyotes quite nicely and you can find more on the subject in this thread.

Re: Trying Varget

H322 shoots mighty good too, and I generally like to keep a couple of lbs on hand myself.

Re: Trying Varget

As long as you don't have a chrono you'll probably be completely satisfied with Varget accuracy wise. Of course some rifles just don't seem to do well with some powders and that is always a crapshoot. I've shot some very good groups with Varget, but it is quite a bit slower than many other good powd...

Re: CFE 223

I was able to shoot some good groups with CFE 223 in 204 Ruger. However, I never could get the ES down to what I thought it should be. I was able to do better with IMR 8208 and easily get an increase of 100 fps with 32, 34, 35, 39, and 40gr. bullets while keeping ES much lower and accuracy better. O...

Brian, don't feel badly when most of us started out we didn't have much of anything to work with either. Stay with it and you'll get a good stock built up eventually. :D

Re: load data for superformance

emo, I believe superformance is going to be way too slow for 32g's. On Hodgdon's burn chart it falls between H4831 and Win 780 which is way slow for a fast bullet in a fast caliber.

Re: Sierra 32gr BK & CFE 223 load data

Dan, CFE 223 is a ball powder and looks very similar to W748 or BLC (2). I haven't shot the 32 bk's but 32 v or z max gives me about 4,000 fps in a 22" Savage with the max load of 30.9 and no pressure signs using Rem brass and shoots under .5 moa. It does seem to keep the coppering down. In fac...

Re: cfe-223 powder

Best data will probably be found here since the powder is new and hasn't been out long enough to be in many printed load manuals. From what I've seen in my 204 the velocity runs pretty close to the published data using 32, 35, and 40's. Actually I shoot 39 sbk's instead of 40's, but runs about the s...
