Re: Powders with low ES and SD
Before getting too hung up on SD's and ES read this https://www.shootingsoftware.com/ftp/Perverse%20Nature%20of%20SD.pdf What I do is concentrate on finding a powder, load and a bullet that gives good groups then load it as precisely as I can. I might experiment with action screw torques, bullet sea...

Re: Powders with low ES and SD
there is a whole lot more to ES and SD than the kind of powder you use. Most of it is case prep. I use a inside neck reamer on my fired brass, tumble it, then anneal it followed by neck sizing then trim cases chamfer and deburr if needed, check primer pockets, measure the powder to the nearest .1 an...

Re: Experience with TAC for 39 SBKs
not a Remington owner here but I am using a 26 inch barrel. My gun won't shoot TAC as well as it does other powders. That is a shame cause I have 5 pounds of it I bought for .203 use. It shoots sub MOA but that is about it. I did load workups with 32 and 39 SBK's, 34 Dog Towns and 40 VMax. Might try...

Re: New 204 Owner looking at optics
times 2 on the Leupold scope. One thing to keep in mind with higher magnification is mirage. Sometimes at longer ranges I will actually crank my magnification down a bit and it helps with mirage issues. That in mind it is better to have it there to decrease in times like that than not have when you ...

Re: Which Die set to get?
I use Redding's S sizer now for my .204 with the Redding micrometer seater. On my .308 and .260 I still use the Lee collet neck sizing dies with a Forster micrometer seating die which they share. I rarely get more than .001 runout no matter whether I use my old Lee collet or the Redding S die to nec...

Re: Primer choices
The reason I use the CCI 450's simply because I bought 10K several years ago for my AR .223's and they seem to work fine in the .204. I have also loaded a few batches using CCI 400 and noticed no difference in performance one way or the other.

Re: Primer choices
I use the CCI 450's with 23.7 RL10X and a 39 gr SBK. Consistent sub .5 performance @100 and 200 and sub MOA accuracy at 300 off a bipod and bag

Re: VihtaVuori N 530 ?
I was considering finding a pound just to try. One of our local shops used to carry a fair selection of VV but I rarely shop there due to their prices so not sure if they still do. At the moment I have plenty of my go to powder for the .204 and all my other guns. Late summer or fall I will do a top ...

Re: Finding 'that' load
Ladder: min to max in half grain increments. Seated: 1.940" Group size: all were 1.5" or worse, spread out all over Primer: CCI small rifle We shall see what these 32 grainers do. .5 grain increment jumps is the problem. you could have jumped 2 or 3 nodes and never saw them , look at the ...

Re: Finding 'that' load
post the ladder you used, along with the COL, group size, primer etc. Could be your barrel might not like them, every barrel is different. If you were using large jumps ( .5) grain go back and do a set using .2 jumps in the middle of the load range spanning 1.0 - 1.4 grains. If you find something th...

VihtaVuori N 530 ?
anyone tried it? Just curious, If I can find a pound locally I am interested in giving it a try. I used some of their powder in 9mm/45ACP/38sp a few years back, it was good stuff but pricy. It was really clean though

yep, real sensitive to barrel temp also. If you shoot fast, like I tend to, don't push it too high. Find a low to midrange node

Re: 34 grain Dogtowns and RL10x
after looking up the BC for the 34's I am not sure how far I will push them. They have a .135 BC compared to the 39 SBK's .287 BC

Re: Advice needed please....
it involves a bit more then just finding the right speed for the bullet. Different powders can burn faster or slower than others. http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html and that will play into your barrel harmonics http://www.shootingsoftware.com/barrel.htm sometimes it takes some time to find the rig...
