Re: Speer 39 grain TNT HP

I bought a box back about 3 years ago. They shot pretty good, but not as good as the ever-reliable SBKs. On average, they shot about .75 groups out of my Cooper 204, while the SBKs were comfortably under 0.5. However, I did not monkey with them too much so you might get a bit better than that. On th...

Re: 223 priming issues! Am I doing something wrong?

Your military cases have crimped primers. You'll need to remove the crimp by either swaging them out or by using your deburring tool to remove the crimp.

You can search on Youtube or the internet as there are several tools and methods available that will help you here.

Re: .204 Sierra 39gr BKs with B/Mark powder

Well, I shot 6 different powder charges (going up in increments of .5gr) from 24.1 - 26.6gr of Benchmark Powder with Wolf Magnum Primers. I settled on 25.6gr (with the original 39gr SBK). I shoot Benchmark and 39ers out of my Cooper and that is exactly where I am at. I tried messing around with dif...

Re: 204 brass

My Hornady brass from the 50 round boxes is still going strong. It is not the best and don't even attempt to uniform the primer pockets. That is a lost cause. However, it shoots pretty well for the most part and I have upwards of 5 reloads on some. No split necks yet and it still chambers well even ...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

With respect to the dies and trying to limit inconsistencies in the case, there are several ways that you can go. The most common is the basic full length or neck size dies that resizes the outside of your case (the entire case for full length die or just the neck for the neck size die) on the upstr...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

Yeah, I would bracket the last 3 loads from the IMR test and break them into 0.2 grain increments and repeat. Looks like you are showing some pretty good closure of your groups between 26.9 and 27.5, depending upon the nature of those couple of fliers.

Keep us up to date

Anyone headed out to the Rockchuck Derby?

Starts this Friday in Bliss, Idaho. Pretty good time and all the money goes to a really good cause. Sounds like the timing may be about perfect as temps are supposed to be in the mid to upper 70s.

Re: Rock Chucks!

Getting the itch here as well. Rock Chuck Derby is just about 2 weeks away.

Also found a new place last year while I was running around in the mountains. Didn't know that they liked the higher elevations (~9500ft) as well. Needless to say, these ones are safe for another 2 months at least.

Re: 20 cal decapper?

I use the Universial Lee unit for my 204 and 20 VT. It is tight but it fits the 204. You just have to be a little more careful to make sure that your case is lined up with the rod. For use in my 223 formed to 20 vt cartridges, it is nicknamed 'the donught detector'. It works fine so long as you keep...

Re: tumbling bullets

That has to be a relief knowing the barrel is not shot out.

I have about 3600 rounds down the barrel of my 204 and it is still going strong.

Re: Wtt: h322 for varget

Yeah, after hazmat and shipping, you are probably looking at close to $35 bucks before you even enter into the cost of the powder. For only a half pound, that is pretty steep.

I think that i'll keep it and be on the lookout for a local trade on some H4198. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Re: Wtt: h322 for varget

Where are you located? I have about 1/2 of a pound of Varget I have no use for, however, I don't use H322. I would be willing to sell outright, but the Hazmat fees may be a little too steep if you are not in the Boise area.

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!

I read in yesterdays paper that a coyote calling contest in N. CA was being protested and "attended" by the morons at PETA and other bunny-hugging outfits. This is another one of those events I/we all hope does not get the attention of these pathetic fools, as they'll surely come and %&am...

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!

Too bad there are no chucks in Cali. As Bodei stated there are what we call "Rock Chucks" here in Kulifornia. I know RIO likes to get after them. He lives up in Oregon and has posted some pics of Rock Chucks he has taken. Yeppers, here's one now! (with a sore throat that even Vick's could...

Re: Bullet drop-39gr Sierra

Be aware that the Sierra 39gr listed BC is a G1 number, which is NOT the best model to be used for modern boattail bullets. If you look deeper, you will see that the listed G1 BC for this bullet is dependent upon velocity. The G7 model would be much better suited, but unfortunately, I don't think th...
