Re: Damaged Crown

Vpees I picked up a crown polishing tool from Midway. It looks like a small brass ball on the end of stick and the kit contains three different grades of polishing compound. I had a 7-08 with a damaged crown that shot 2" 3-shot groups, that now shoots a small cloverleaf 3 shot groups. It took a...

Give Jim Briggs a call at Northland Shooters 763-682-4296. He carries both Shilen and CBI for Savage and has a system to put a Savage style(with barrel nut) barrel on a Remington. I have 4 of his CBI and they all shoot better than I can.

Re: Hornady concentricity tool

I have used this for a year or so on my Hunting loads and it works great. I can get the numbers down to 0.001-2 very quickly.

Re: savage barrel

If I was going to pay the smithing fees for a factory barrel I would wait and put on a custom aftermarket barrel. You will like the aftermarket barrel better than a factory and the cost will only be for the barrel, you will have to pay for the chambering and threading anyway no mater which barrel yo...

Re: savage barrel

Is the barrel new , a new take-off or used?
What type firearm will you be putting the Savage barrel on?
Will you need to recut the threads on the barrel for the action?

Just some questions to help us

Re: Replacement barrel?

sharptailhunter You are right about the Go gauge, but you do not need a No-Go. After I set my headspace with the Go gauge I place a piece of clear tape over the bottom end of the Go gauge this adds about 0.002 to the overall lenght and try to chamber the Go gauge again. If you have the headspace set...

Re: Concentricity Gage

Rick in Oregon Just so you know most of the bullets I handload on my Redding dies come out to be less than +/- 0.0015 on either of my concentricity gauges. Even with the cheaper reloading dies I use for my hunting rounds; RCBS, LEE, the runout is less than 0.005 and most of the time less than 0.003....

Take a look at the new Hornady model. I just picked one up and I like the fact that you can adjust the bullet to minimize the wobble of the bullet.

Re: Remington VSSF II bad?

Hawkeye Reloader Have you looked at the crown on your rifle?? I had a Savage that had a "ding" in the crown and it would not shoot less than 2" at 100 yards. I cleaned the "ding" out of the crown area and the groups are now just over 3/4" and this was on a pencil barrel...

Help from the Midwest Coyote hunters.

I am looking for some help from the Midwest Coyote hunting guys. What time of day works best for you? Early morning; Mid day; just before dusk? We have been out mostly mid afternoon to just before dusk. We see lots of scat, tracks, but no dogs as of yet. None of the coyotes have barked at us or made...
