Re: .243 win.
Every rifle is a bit different . By triing different amounts of bullet free bore one can find what bullet jump to the rifleing the rifle likes. Start with the standard COL then try some loaded a bit shorter and longer.

Re: Brass from different manufacturers for reloading?
I started reloading ammo in 1953. Over the years my brass has ben seperated by brand and military brass by the date stamp. Whenever I found them I would read articals about how the bench and long range target shooters prepared their target ammo . Whenever I miss a shot I know its me not my ammo or r...

Re: shelf life of powders
I started reloading in 1953. I keep my powder in the orignal cans and store them in a cool dry cabnit. Over the years one can developed red dust in the powder which is a indication that the powder is breaking down and should not be used. I still have some powder that I purchased in the 60s which is ...

Re: Coopers In July Rifle Magazine
I have two Cooper 57 M LVT rimfire rifles . One is a 17 HM2 the other is a 17 HMR. They are fine prairie dog pup shooting rifles. I use the 17 Hm2 for shots out to about 120 yards and the 17 HMR for shots out to about 180 yards. Beyond 180 Yds I use a 17 Fireball and 204 Ruger rifles.

Re: Ruger M77 II Target/Varmint in 204 Ruger?
I got a Ruger T/V .204 rifle when they first came out. After my brother and sun in law had seen my 100 yard groups with the 32 gr V-Max bullets they both got one. Our rifles also likes the 39 Gr bullets. Try Varget powder with Fed 209 M primers. I put a 6-18 X AO Leupold scope on it. It is one fine ...

Re: Circa 1974 reloading costs
I started reloading in 1953 with a Lymon Tru Line Jr press with small diameter neck dies. The only price I can recall is that surplus 4895 and 4831 powder cost me $ 0.25 per pound. I wish I had recorded the cost of all the reloading tools I have purchased over the years.

Re: .204 Ruger vs. .17 Fireball
I,m an old gun nut, started shooting prairie dogs back in 1949 with a 22 rifle with a Wearver J-4 scope. You will pertty well set up if you come out to prairie dog country with 17 HMR, 17 Fireball, and .204 Ruger rifles. If you go to www.huntingnut.com and down load their ballistics program you can ...

Re: Ruger rifle
I purchased a .204 Ruger Ruger Target-Varmint model when they first came out. It was a very accurate out of the box rifle . My brother and son in law have also gotten the same modle . Over the years I have tryed out various brands of rifles and cartridges. The .204 Ruger is the best prairie dog rifl...

Re: How much does free floating a barrel improve accuracy!
Every rifle is different. Check to find out where the barrel is contacting the stock. I have free floated a light weight rifle barrel and found that it shot bigger groups and then put in a glass bedding barrel pressure pad in the forearm with the rest of the barrel free floated. Over the years I hav...

Re: 17M2 Info...
The 17 Gr V-Max bullet has about 100 ft/lb of energy at 80 yards when fired from the 17 HM2 rifle while the same 17 grain bullet fired from 17 HMR rifle has 100 ft/lb of energy at 150 yards. About the only thing I hunt with the 17 rimfire rifles is prairie dogs. I limit my shot to where the bullets ...

Re: Varmint Hunting - What put the bug in you?
I got to shoot an old Remington 22 slide action when I was 7 or 8 years old. During the spring of 1949 dad gave me a new Remington Mdl 121 slid action 22 RF rifle. A gunsmith in Cheyenne Wyo mounted a Weaver J-4 X scope on it in 1950. There were plenty of jack rabbits and prairie dogs out in the cou...

Re: So You Want To Buy A Remington 204
It helps to know how to give a rifle a tune up. That is glass bed the action with about two inches of the barrel, free float the rest of the barrel, adjust the trigger, lapp the bolt locking lugs, and recrown the barrel. Get a Boyds laminated stock ,get rid of plastic. I have given some Remington 70...

Re: 17 Fireball Velocities
The load for my Rem Mdl 700 CDL SF Limited Ed is 19.0 Gr Benchmark powder in Rem cases with Fed 205 Match primers and Hornady 25 Gr HP bullets. The average MV is 3,880 ft/sec. The 19.0 Gr powder load is MAX per Hodgdon. Last week I got 17 Fireball reloading data from Hornady. The Max powder load fro...

Re: Well I hate to do this but I have to.
My Ruger 77 VT 204 is one rifle I did not have to work on. It shoots 1/2 inch 100 Yd five shot groups with the 32 Gr and 39 Gr bullet reloads. I adjusted the trigger pull down to 3 pounds and free floated the barrel of a Remington 17 Fireball to get it to shoot 6/10 th inch groups. I glass bedded th...
