Re: Savage B Mag in 17 wsm

Hi, I have several .204 rifles and love 'em. Including a .224 Ruger I built. It's a .222 Mag AI based on the .204 Ruger..... I also have more Savage rifles than the LGS, mostly Axis models, and just love them. I have built many wildcats using the Axis, the last was a McGowan bbl Axis in 6.5 TCU. Exc...

Re: No wonder I get confused!

Hi Rick (and Toasty). The stuff is called hex Boron Nitrate. I 'think' I got it from a chemical firm in Canada. I bought a pound of both hBN and WS2. The WS2 is very dense, as opposed to the hBN, which is very light and fluffy. Although there are places to get smaller quantities. I opted for a pound...

Re: Anyone here built a 22-204R?

NCM. Thanks. I just realized that any good 'surfactant' should work. Also, I think I have some Red Line "water wetter" out in the shop. I use it in my hot rods........
Thanks!

Re: No wonder I get confused!

Hi Rick. I have known about Lock Ease for quite a while. I have never been able to find it here in the Florida woods. I have heard a lot of BR shooters use it on the first fouling shot, before a string. My progression on coated bullets started like everyone else. First it was Moly. Then Moly with Ca...

No wonder I get confused!

I'm in the process of 'building' my first SS wildcat rifle. I own several factory SS rifles and found a new McGowan bbl that was exactly what I was looking for. So, while waiting for my 'doner' rifle to arrive, I did some 'research' on the following subjects: 1. bbl break-in 2. cleaning theories I u...

Re: Anyone here built a 22-204R? And a dumb question.

Rick In Oregon, I just got back from the range. It has been near 80 degrees here and rained the last 2 days..... Today cleared up nicely. I didn't use my regular shooting range and table, but set up a new target, which laser indicated was 130 yards away. The purpose was to fire form more brass and '...

Re: Anyone here built a 22-204R?

Yep, Lane is the Reloading Editor for Shooting Times. His articles have also appeared in Rifle Shooter magazine. I've been following him for many, many years. He's an Engineer by trade, BUT I am well aware about writers/magazines being self serving. ha ha I didn't mean to imply I was 'inventing' any...

Re: Anyone here built a 22-204R?

First of all, the ctg in question is 'technically' called a 22-204R Improved (my term). Lane Pearce (and Dave Kiff, of PTG, called it, the .224 Ruger). It uses 204R brass, but the chamber is reamed to reduce the taper, as I said by .013". It is slightly longer than the 204R and has the AI shoul...

Re: Anyone here built a 22-204R?

Sorry to disappoint you both. You are wrong. The 22-204 is basically a LONG 223 AI, The fireformed case has .013" LESS taper than the 204. In addition, the shoulder is pushed forward and has the AI profile.

You need to research your facts, and write to PTG as I did........

Anyone here built a 22-204R?

Hi. I have a Savage M12 in 204R and it is fantastic. Being a heavy varmint style rifle, it has virtually no recoil. After seeing the article in the latest issue of Shooting Times magazine on the 22-204, I built one. VERY simple. I have several new Savage Axis rifles in 223Rem, so I used one as the f...

Re: weaver kaspa

Hi, funny how different people 'favor' different scopes. I usually get every 'opinion/review' I can find on a particular model, before putting down my $. Reading the reviews on Midway, the Viper is highly rated. However, I've come to the conclusion that in the end, the only opinion that matters is m...

Re: weaver kaspa

Not to be a 'downer', but of all the scopes recently purchased, the Kaspa is at the bottom of the heap. If you think it's a good deal, that's fine. Ya just get what you pay for, as usual. I mounted it, sighted it in (on a new .17 WSM, Savage), and took it right off. Yeah, Weaver's been around a long...
