SPS has 40 gr. Nosler BT Blems on Sale for .204 Caliber
Just received an e-mail from Shooter's Pro Shop announcing that they have the .204 caliber 40 gr. Nosler BT blems on sale for $12.95/100. I shot quite a few of the 40 gr. Nosler BTs out of my factory 1 in 12 twist Savage 12VLP barrel and got good accuracy and fantastic acrobatics from prairie dogs....

Re: My take on a 4-station gun vise
dsandfort-- That is a very nice setup. Besides the I have three Tipton rifle vises and have to have them set up in three different places. You invention sure would save me a lot of running around to three different stations to clean rifles. I might have to build one like that. Do you have rubber on...

Re: Reloads for .204 ruger.
Hodgdon lists 26.6 gr. of Benchmark as the Maximum load. I'd be VERY CAREFUL going over that listed Max. Most of my rifles shoot their most accurate with a powder charge UNDER the listed max. Some web sites and powder companies list the "most accurate load" in their manuals. Buy a couple ...

Fantastic video!!! Thanks for posting it. I'm looking forward to the 2016 version. What caliber rifles and weight of bullets were giving those rats the highest flight???

Re: 40 gr. Bergers
Never used the 40 gr. Berger on coyotes, only the 35 gr. Berger. The 35 gr. Berger worked great for saving fur. The BC of the 35 gr. Berger is quite low and I have had some problems with wind deflection almost causing some missed shots. I have used some 40 gr. V-Max on coyotes and they were pretty r...

Sidewinderwa-- When I was a bit younger I used to process my furs and send the stretched and dried furs up to the Dominion Soudak auction in Winnipeg. For about the last 20 years, however, I have been selling them in the round and that's what I'll be doing with this one. Eastern Montana and NW Nort...

Coyote down on 12-30-2015
This has been a very slow coyote season for me. I have been busy watching grand kids play volleyball and now basketball. Something always seems to get in the way of getting out to try to call in a coyote or two. I was out one full day with my hunting partner back on November 2. We only saw one coyot...

PD Hunt on 10-16-2015
I finally made it back to the excellent dog town I had shot in earlier this summer on July 31. I could see there had been some other hunters driving their vehicle out in the dog town, but they left lots and lots of prairie dogs for me, but they were warier and I wasn’t getting a bunch of 50 to 100 y...

Re: Winchester brass
Most of the WW brass I purchased was bought prior to 2007. I have not had any neck splits or other real complaints about this older brass. I do anneal my brass after three or four firings which no doubt helps guard against neck splits. I was very impressed with the quality of the WW .204 Ruger bras...

ND Prairie Dog Shoot on 10-8-2015
Today’s PD shoot found me at a dog town I hadn’t shot in for maybe 4 or 5 years. I would be heading to a part of the dog town that wasn’t inhabited by PDs 5 years ago, as far as I know. From the spot I would park my pickup, it would be about a half mile walk, but the morning was cool and the sun wa...

Re: PD Shoot on 9-26-2015
Sidewinderwa-- I can see why you don't go shooting prairie dogs very often--12 hours of driving is a looooong drive. I'm glad I can satisfy some of your need for trigger time with my little stories. I used to drive over into Eastern Montana in 2002 through about 2006 to shoot prairie dogs, but that...

Blacktail-- My Savage 12VLP in .204 Ruger was purchased from Red Rock Sporting Goods in Miles City, MT on June 3, 2004. This Savage 12VLP has a 26" barrel compared to your 24" barrel so you might lose anywhere from 20 to 80 fps with the 2" shorter barrel. I purchased 15 boxes of 32 g...

PD Shoot on 9-26-2015
I had planned to go after prairie dogs on Thursday, 9-24-2015, because the weather forecast was great—mid 70s temps and very low speed winds. Then I remembered that the 24th was my wife’s birthday so I decided against tempting fate in case she might not be so forgiving?!?!?! The weather report for ...

Re: 9-11-2015 PD Outing
Sidewinderwa--the Tikka 22-250 has been in my arsenal since about 2001. However, it didn't get much trigger time once I got into the 204 Ruger, 17 TAC and other small caliber rifles. I had the new Brux barrel threaded for my suppressor and that tamed down the recoIL and made it much more pleasant to...

Re: 9-11-2015 PD Outing
futuretrades-- Those really were some special rocks!!! I have a whole collection of rocks in my back yard and some of them form a circular rock garden with lots of snap dragon flowers in it. Most of the rocks around this flower bed are scoria cinders or big chunks of different colored scoria. There...
