Re: Moly vs no moly powder charge
Jeff, I was thinking of using moly coated bullets, but after talking to a few guys that used them, I changed my mind. They claimed that the performance was excellent but at the expense of having a heck of a time getting rid of the the buildup at the throat. Just something you might want to research,...

OCW test 204R updated
For those of you who are working on developing a load for your 204R, I thought I'd share a test I'm doing using the Optimum Charge Weight procedure developed by Dan Newberry. http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/ I modified it a bit in that I picked the max load I wanted and kept dropping char...

Re: Nosler Lead Free Ballistic Tips Quality
I wouldn't worry about it. After seeing a demo on the "truth box" (can't remember the web address) minor issues with the bullet tip don't bother me. It's the base that really seems to affect performance. Seems counter intuitive but they really mucked up some bullets and the accuracy wasn't...

Same with me. Weigh 'em to eliminate a variable and press on.

Re: 40gr V-Max and H-4895
Madpaddler, Don't know if you're familiar with the RCBS comparator. Essentially, it contains a simulated .204 case with an adjustable 'bullet' insert. Works on the same principle as the Stoney Point tool. With that, I measured the depth to lands as .1590" using the ogive gage that comes with th...

Re: 40gr V-Max and H-4895
Silverfox,
Interesting data. I was matching the 8208 and 4895 by weight and didn't go past the first one that grouped well. I think I'll try pushing the 4895 and see where that gets me. Still may favor the 8208 as it meters better.
BTW- what was the "sorry" post for?

Re: 32 gr Sierra BKs keyholing, problem with bullet or with
Just from what you've said about shooting other bullets without key holing, I'd say it's the BK 32's. Might be a bad batch or the fact that
some bullets just don't shoot well in a particular rifle

Re: 40gr V-Max and H-4895
Hedge, nice shooting. I'm also working up some loads using 8208 XBR and 40gr Vmax. What is your COAL? Thanks, Tokimini. I don't measure OAL. Instead, I take my measurements from the ogive. With my RCBS comparator, I'm showing .130''. Takes a little time to find the sweet spot. It's all fun, though....

Re: 40gr V-Max and H-4895
Excellent shooting! Any idea on your fps with that load? Thanks, Doubleup. Gotta give credit to the rifle, though. It's like shooting a laser! :D All I have to do is control the trigger and watch my breathing. I'm getting an average of 3631 fps with an SD of 15. I don't mind not spitting them out a...

Re: 40gr V-Max and H-4895
I switched from H335 to H4895 and 8208 XBR because the H335 was too temperature sensitive. I worked up loads for both powders until I got what I was looking for. They were close, but the 8208 XBR, won in this case. I'll be trying both powders for the 26 gr. Barnes and the 32 gr. Vmax. We'll see how ...
