Ground squirrels

They're out around here. Not a lot of them but enough to get some shooting. My buddy and I went out last Friday for a few hours. He was shooting his AR 223 and I had my #1 218 Bee. We shot 30 or 40, didn't really keep track. We did get to see some pretty impressive aerobatics. There's still a few pr...

Re: Anyone use the Nosler 34 Grain HP bullet?

Try the 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon. It's the most accurate bullet I've ever shot in my Rem 700 .204. I also use BLC(2). I think Hodgdon lists 30.9 as max but my best accuracy was at 28.5 gr. I got a .169 group. Everybody says that Sierra 39 gr, bullets are more accurate in their .204's but strangely ...

Re: OR93 another good wolf

Exactly! I live in Idaho and I know what they can do. I have seen six wolves but not where I could shoot. Three of them were on Simplot land where they raise cattle. I asked for permission to hunt them there and was told that if I was caught on their property I'd be prosecuted. I keep thinking maybe...

Re: Whos coyote hunting?

Yes, I agree, It's good just to get out. I always enjoy a day out in the field even if it's just roaming around. Speaking of raptors, we did have a couple of Kestrals respond and a few Ravens flew over.

Re: Whos coyote hunting?

My partner and I went out this past Monday. We made several stands but didn't call in a thing. We saw one badger that got away before we could get on it and several mule deer does. We'll try again in a few days.

Re: .223 bolt guns

I have a Ruger American compact, 223 I can't believe how accurate it is. The only thing I did was put a Timney trigger on it. I do not like those "accu triggers". The Timney feels like a trigger is supposed to feel, to me anyway. I don't like taking up slack in a trigger. I have shot sever...

Re: New gun today.

I have an old Tikka that was made for Ithaca. It has both names on the barrel. I think it's an LS55? It is a 6 m/m, one of my favorite cartridges. I've been shooting 85 gr. Sierra h.p.'s in it with H 100V powder. Shoot's good with that combo. I've shot lots of ground squirrels and a few badgers with...

Re: Whos coyote hunting?

I've been wanting to get out but it seems like something always comes up to keep me from going. I'm thinking maybe Monday, every other day next week is supposed to be raining.

Re: Still slow here

We've been having real nice weather here, 70's & 80's. Tues. & Wed. are suppose to be around 63 then back up to 80's by the end of the week. I've had the heater on a few mornings just to take the chill off. Still no rain though, pretty dry out in the hills.

Re: Load development-CZ 527 American

I was only able to get 1" groups with the Sierra 39 gr. in my 700 Rem. I got 3/4" with 40 gr. V-max but with 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddons I got a .169 group. Using BLC(2) with all of them. Also, I have seen two splashes with Sierra 39's, one on a badger and one on a coyote. Neither one was r...

Re: Still slow here

I'm glad we don't have the high humidity here, temperature wise it has been nice here lately. We really need rain though, it's so dry here. They're going to shut off irrigation a month earlier than normal. I'm real careful about not getting off the roads/two tracks when I'm out and about. Don't want...
