Re: Primers! Very interesting.

Interesting point. However, I seldom reload my cases that many times. I was informed long ago that when varmint hunting I would shoot 500 rounds per day, so I purchased brass accordingly. I reality I shot only a fraction of that; on the order of 150 or so. So most of my brass has only been loaded tw...

Re: Browning A-Bolt Medallion 204 Ruger

I have a Browning a-bolt in .22 mag. It aesthetically is just gorgeous. Functionally, it has adequate accuracy for a rather limited cartridge. My .204s are either custom or customized weapons of great power and accuracy. Bottom line, you won't be disappointed in the Browning, if you don't expect the...

Re: Which Leupold scope is right for me?

What to look for in a long range varmint scope in order of importance: 1. Parallax adjustment: This will allow you to place the target in the same plane as scope system. Movement of head will not affect POI in properly adjusted scope. 2. Larger tube e.g. 30mm: Larger tube will allow for more MOA of ...

Re: new scope

During a recent visit to Cabelas, I took the opportunity to peruse their scope section. It was full of scopes available for a variety of prices. What was interesting was the number of decent looking optics in the $150 to $250 price range. Interesting, you really had to look to find one over $500. Th...

Primers! Very interesting.

I decided it was time to load up for my non-varmint hunting guns. I have two. One is a Pre-64 Model 70 custom in .260 and the other is a .340 Wea. Mark V that I had rebarreled for .330 Dakota. I went to the new Sportsman's Surplus store too look at the bullets now available. I was most impressed wit...

Re: SUCCESS! .204 ruger on a deer. [pictures]

Hey, congratulations on the buck! It's always great to put one down. That said, my .204 is staying in the gun safe until I take it out for coyotes or varmints again. I've killed a few mulies with a .223, and although it works, I've gotten much, much better results just stepping up to a .243 or .25-...

Re: Whats your Work Up Method

Here is an intersting picture of a target shot at 100 yards with 7 WSM and Berger 180 VLD. Note how things suddenly come together with addition of 1/2 grain of powder. Primer is WLRM. Upper left group is a tad over 1 moa, which ain't bad, but I love it when a plan comes together! http://i1232.photob...

Re: Who Needs a 26" Barrel?

This is a funny question from my point of view. I have a Custom 6.5-08 on a pre-war model 70 with a 6 groove Lilga barrel. The riflesmith wanted to know what I wanted for barrel length either 24 or 26 inches. I couldn't decide so I delayed the decision. Silly riflesmith decided it should be 25"...

Re: large cal. rifles

Selecting a firearm starts with proper selection of a bullet. Goal is to reach the target with sufficient energy and placement accuracy to put the animal down immediately. So you have short range (<200), medium range (200 to 400), long range (400 to 600). There is also very long range (>600) which r...

I don't own one, but I did listen to Guy while he raved about it for an hour. He said that pack is always ready for a call out with munchies, water, ammo, light, compass and other necessities.

In short i gathered that he really likes it.

Re: 35 Whelen??

The Whelen is basically a .35-06 (.358), that was developed by Col. Townsend Whelen in the early 1920s.

Reportedly capable of taking any game on the north american continent.

Re: Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS or Kimber 8400 Montana

Maybe I'm just showing my ignorance but what's the +'s of the Pre vs Post-64 Winchester Model 70's? Is it the control-feed or what. My Ruger-77, CZ-527 and Remington-720 (which I've never shot) also has the control-feed system but my Remington 700's do-not. Just curious, I have several pre-64 M70s ...

Cabella's Tacoma, WA First Visit!

Finally was able to stop in and visit "new" Cabelas store near Tacoma, WA today. Very interesting to say the least. They of course had a huge inventory of Shooting, camping, hunting equipment, clothing and supplies and all of it there on display in the store. Got there about 6:00pm and 15 ...

Re: Do you think a 22 rimfire is a handicap with a good shooter?

Funny thing about .22 LR rounds. It turns out that you can spend a couple buck per box of 50 to more than $10.00 per box of match grade ammo. Federal alone makes five or six different grades. The difference is consistency. Most expensive Federal is Ultra match which is intended for international com...
