Re: Case length

I use the Lee system, too. Solved the problem by purchasing a trimmer for a .22-250 and trimming the diameter and length using a drill press and some carbide grit paper. Works great.

Re: Low neck tension = lack of expansion and seal ???

.002" of neck compression should be more than adequate. Sounds more like a light powder charge. The shoulder should be expanding to seal the chamber.

Re: AR 15 and clean burn

Yup, know what you mean, Bill. Mine gets kicked right and forward. My wife's drops 'em right and back, all in the same spot! Makes them easy to locate. :) Glad to hear you don't get dents. You must be living right. ;) I've tried brass catchers, but they seem to be more of a bother than they're worth...

Re: AR 15 and clean burn

Bill,

The deflector should already be built into the upper. Like this:

Re: AR 15 and clean burn

Bill -

glue a bit of velcro on your case deflector. It'll keep the cases from being dented.

Re: 39 bk

Magnum -

You're not alone with the 39 BK. My Savage 1-12 just doesn't like 'em. I've tried H4895, 8208XBR and H335...no dice. Shoots the 40 Vmax great.

Re: Barrel Cleaning

Brad -

I checked out their web site and found another cleaner called Tactical Advantage. I suspect it's just a more potent mix. The problem is that, according to their info, it will attack molybdenum. Many of us have chrom-moly barrels. Any clarification on this?

Re: AR 15 and clean burn

I always thought I was not. Bill K I was in the same boat, Bill. Hefted a few and finally got to shoot a couple. Then found one that just felt so right I had to have it. Not a .204, yet. Later on, down the pike, though. Powder-wise, I've only used a few. The BCG gets dirty (sooty) with 8208 and TAC...

Re: Neck size vs full length

jlc204 -

Can't say I've noticed a change.
I think runout due to misaligned necks has a greater effect than does running the case through the body die. After the body die, I neck size.

Re: Neck size vs full length

I neck size only until the shoulders need bumping. Then I use a body die for that. I also quit using the type of die that draws a sizing spud through neck. With the Lee collett die, I get more consistency in neck/shoulder alignment and it works the brass less.

Re: Strange occurance at the range

Tokimini -

We may never know what it was. The bullets you were using should have held together unless you were sending them out waaaay too fast.
I think 204cat summed it up.

You might try again and use some paper to see the hits. If they don't reach the target, they're coming apart in flight.

Re: Strange occurance at the range

Last time I saw something like that, it was the bullets vaporizing. Did yours reach the target?

Re: Toasted throat?

Jim - I plan to do that when the wind dies down. The more I think about it, the more I'm not so sure that CB shot is off at all. I think I adjusted the elevation before I took the shot. I know I did on the second target. Guess I'm going to have to take better notes, next time. Best I can figure, th...

Re: Toasted throat?

Silverfox - Thanks for the offer. :) I've had it 'scoped and looked through the 'scope myself. I'm coming to the conclusion that it looks worse than it really is. Loaded up some practice rounds, today and will punch some paper tomorrow if the wx is right. May just get up to Williston one of these d...
