Re: South Dakota dog hunt.

I hunted SD about 2 weeks ago. I hunted public land and had done some internet scouting and had to look around a bit, but when I found them, it was insane. The population density is something to behold and dwarfs what I see out west. I couldn't keep my guns cool enough. Shoot for 5-10 minutes and wa...

Re: Savage questions

So what COAL are people having luck with? I don't benchrest, but I need these ES numbers down. I prefer bullets around 40gr. I also read something here about crimping, wonder if I'm getting inconsistent ignition with the ball shaped CFE. I don't crimp for .223, figured .204 didn't need it either. M...

Re: Savage questions

I got off track there, what I came to ask was two things: When I load to a COAL of 2.260, I still have like 1/8 to 1/4 inch of room in my magazine. Can I load longer? I don't want to feed them in singly by hand, want to make sure they'll feed from the mag. I get primer cratering pretty early on my ...

Re: ladder test-visibility question

I can see the holes a two hundred with my 63 year old eyes and a 6x24x50 Sightron if I shoot above my point of aim into white paper. On another note, have you ever read about Dan Newberry's OCW load development system. I use this shooting round robin style & it's great for finding a node. Jim D...

Re: *** 2015 Ruger 204um Five Shot Challenge ***

Had a heck of a time rounding up a 11x13 envelope- matter of fact I think it has to be bigger than 11x13 !! Had I been smart I would have saved the one it came in. Anyhow mine is coming tomorrow - will take to post office on way home. Looking forward to results I just cut one side of my target off ...

Re: FLIERS ????

Jim, toasty, thanks for the information. How many rounds do you guys normally get down your tube before a JB treatment? I know every gun barrel is different, but I was just curious on average round count. I think I might be cleaning my barrels too often, after every 30 rounds or so, using Carb-out ...

Re: FLIERS ????

I follow up with Sweets 7.62 to check for Copper. It also helps get the JB paste residue out. If the Copper is good I'll use Kroil or any fine liquid gun cleaner or oil and it comes right out. I clean up with a light gun oil as well. I use montana extreme bore conditioner, but It probably doesn't m...

Re: Resized brass to a 6x45 and have a doughnut...

Thanks for the quick reply, I was hoping for an everything is good to go, but I had a feeling I was going to need to get me a reamer. Hopefully, that will shrink my groups down.

Resized brass to a 6x45 and have a doughnut...

So I finished building a 6x45 and am having a tough time finding a really accurate load. I bought some new lapua 223 brass and using a redding die, expanded the neck of the case to 6mm. After firing the rounds 1 time I have a pretty big doughnut inside at the base of the neck that is located where t...

Re: FLIERS ????

Thanks guys for all your replies. My computer has been down for a couple of days and this is the first chance I've had to get back. I'll be ordering me some JB paste and with a little luck I can get them alien critters outta here for good. On a side note: I always thought that with the T/C Dimensio...

Re: Speer 39 grain TNT HP

I bought and reloaded some as well. For me, they shot about 1" groups which wasn't nearly as good my bergers and ballistic tips. I probably reloaded and tested about 50 rounds before I gave up. After all that, I tried the 39 sbks which are better than anything I've tried.

Re: .204 Ruger velocities?

How does it compensate for elevation? It would be interesting to see the results on a sunny vs. an overcast day. I'm all for making it easier but more importantly, more consistent. There is nothing no worse than getting readings several FPS apart from the very same load, out of the very same gun, o...

Re: .204 Ruger velocities?

- What is the elevation? - What is the distance between the muzzle and chronograph? - What is the weather conditions? - Is the light over cast or bright and sunny? I've found in my experience that all of these things come into play. You need to get a magnetospeed chrono, will take care of most of t...
