Re: New to forum and a new cooper 204R

In my 204R and the Cooper, I have settled on 25.5 gr of Benchmark and the 39 BK. Gets me about 3750 and pretty consistent groups in the .4 range. Have about 3500 rounds down the tube and, so far, no loss of accuracy. I did try the R10x and it worked pretty well, but not as good as the Benchmark for ...

Re: Does brass hide out with missing socks?

I had a hundred rounds of neck-sized reloads stolen out of my truck a year or two back. The only thing that makes me smile is imagining the retards first trying to use them in a 223 and if they do happen to have a 204, wondering why they will not chamber.

Re: WTB: Cooper Varminter, 20VT

Don't know how much you are set on the Varminter, but Cliff's here in Bose has a Jackson Hunter in the Model 38 for sale. This M38 short action is no longer made by Cooper in the 20VT, however, is is the shorter (22 in) and semi-sporter-stlye barrel. I have held it several times and it is a beaut. C...

Re: Speer, .204 39 gr. TNT

I loaded some up with my 39 BK load (25.5 gr of Benchmark over BR-4 Primers) and they shot pretty well. Groups were .6 to .75 inchs, which is a little worse than I typically get out of my Cooper shooting the BlitzKings. However, the cost is quite a bit lower as well. Right now, thier avaliability se...

Re: 20VT in prairie dog fields.........

I can't speak for the 20VT (as that is on my 'next Cooper' list), but for my Cooper 204 I clean every 100 to 120 rounds or so. I can tell that the accuracy starts to degrade in the 150 round range. Also with my 204, you can't shoot more than about 15 to 20 rounds in a few minutes without getting the...

Re: 39 gr BK loads

Out of my Cooper, I have settled on 25.5 gr of Benchmark w/CCI 450s or BR4s, which give a velocity of ~3750fps. During testing, 24.4 gr of RE 10x also shot pretty well. I get average 0.35" to 0.45" groups if I do my part. Just shot a 0.28" the other day, even after about 3,200 rounds ...

Re: Ground squirrels endangered in Idaho

Sounds like this ground squirrel thing is getting more complicated. Here in so. west Idaho it seems there are four different sub species. They all over lap and you may be shooting squirrels from all four in any one area. Two of them are endangered and two aren't and it's really hard to tell them ap...

Re: Just getting started...

Looks like you have most of it. A few other odds and ends that are nice to have: Primer pocket brush - or better yet a uniformer Neck Brush Not sure on the funnel, but it may not be made for sub-22 calibers (I recommend Brad's funnel from CRT) I am not sure about this kit, but most don't come with t...

Re: hand loads vs factory loads for accuracy

I'm curious as to how many hand loaders notice a difference in accuracy when comparing their loads to factory ammo. Last time I used factory loads in my 204 I couldn't get groups below 3/4". On that same day with my hand loads every group was sub 1/2". Is this common or am I just lucky? I...

Re: Speer TnT Bullets

I clicked on the Speer link and it said this about these bullets" "These excellent varmint options use non-lead technology for great terminal performance". Are these an all copper buller? The 39 grain TNTs contain lead. It is the 32 grain bullets that are 'green' and have to powder c...

Re: Speer TnT Bullets

I have had the same frustrations...anybody have anything specific from Alliant or personal experience loading these speer bullets for the 204 yet? I grabbed some about 5 months ago (the 39 grainers, which are not lead free) and loaded them up using 25.5gr of Benchmark. They shot pretty well (about ...

Re: Case lube question.

I will usually dump them into a baggie and then wax up my hands with the Imperial. Just run the brass over your hands and work them around the baggie. After a minute or so, they should all be ready to go. Works pretty well and the coverage is more even than you would think. It does not take much, so...

Re: Cooper rifles

Hi. Longtime lurker here that finally took the plunge and thought that I would chime in. I bought a Cooper 204R back in 07 and I would defiantly recommend these rifles to anyone who has the means to purchase one. It is the Standard Varminter and it is a very fine rifle. From what I have heard, the C...
