Re: Do you try to kiss the lands,
Thanks Rick I found out quick seeing a rough bore isn't a reason for concern, my better shooting remington barrels, although with little erosion or alligator surfaces, shoot better than visually indicated ( a lot of torn lands, material missing). I forgot you make your reamers with little or no free...

Re: Do you try to kiss the lands,
I picked up the Hornady tool a few months ago, and seem to be pushing the bullet too hard as I have had several 17 caliber bullets stick in the lands, having to push them out with a rod inserted very slowly. Any tricks besides not pressing so hard to make sure the bullet contacts the rifling properl...

Re: Contender/Encore?
I agree with your thoughts. I have only gone to the field for 3 days, probably 800+ rounds fired, but the bolt guns were used 95% of my shooting even though my contender was the least recoiling guns in 22k hornet. I have since gotten a 17 AH in both 12" and 22", the 17 has a lot less recoi...

Thanks
I am 99% sure it isn't headspace, I set the brass to crush on closing the action, even though it is fireforming new brass. I changed to rem 7 1/2's and fixed the problem.

Re: Should i clean my brass/cases?
How did you determine the Hornady needed to be bumped more than the Nosler? I assume the Hornady had springback ( harder) than the Nosler brass.
Thanks

Re: 20 VT "factory" ammo? - sorry, not 204
Nice groups. The 2 test targets my 17 rem came back with look like your test target. I am surprised your "7 of 12" fired ammo didn't use HSM as it looks like it was loads with H-335? I asked Cooper, as their and HSM's address is I believe on the same road, if they were partners ( assuming ...

Re: 20 VT "factory" ammo? - sorry, not 204
Good point, I had forgotten to consider multiplying their target group size by 2 for distance, plus I am not shooting a 36x Leupold indoors. Yes, 1/2" is good enough, I just hoped to do at least one small bughole group before quitting wasting paper and use it on vermin. 32, did you clean those ...

Re: 20 VT "factory" ammo? - sorry, not 204
I sent my 17 remington Cooper back for a once over, and the ammo they used after refurbishing the gun was HSM ammo, 20 Hp. I bought a box of 50, found the case necks in need of a good outside chamfer, but other than that it seems like good ammo. I haven't been able to duplicate their indoor target(s...

Very nice buck Melvin, and great story. I have to ask, the Plaque is a pretty ODD shaped chunk of wood, was it a discard from some other woodworking project, or is it modern Art? Lol Surprised I guessed Il correct, but had to scroll up to verify your profile location Dad was born in Peoria, I have b...

Re: Moly allows longer shooting sessions?
Thanks Rick. As I line up the guns I have for the next trip, I also am heavy on the small case / small bullet stuff. I was very interested in your take on the heat advantage, and even though the test used a thermometer, my gut says "in the field" is better than a lab test, even though I am...

Moly allows longer shooting sessions?
I have a 204 that I picked up just before last springs Vermin slaughter that was fed a diet of 35 gn Moly coated Bergers, and came with enough ammo to use during the shooting. I also have a 223 that shoots some 55 vmax moly bullets well that I picked up 300 inexpensively and shot those all up last s...

Re: Morning in the Office
Keep up the encouraging picts Rick. When we were in Alturas we saw a few "pull behind" elevated platforms and saw a few guys shooting out of the bed of their pickups. In Ca it is reported to be illegal if the tow rig is connected mechanically to a vehicle with an engine, IE DFG says you ne...

Re: Remington 700 SPS Varmint 26" experiences
My 700 SPS used to shoot sub quarter inch 5 shot groups using hand loads and just over half inch for factory loads. This year my groups have gotten a bit inconsistent. Time for a new barrel I'm afraid. Don't toss the barrel with the bath water yet. How many rounds does it have pushed down it, and I...

Re: Morning in the Office
OK One more with Scenery and a shooting "double' bench with sun protection that we need for our next Spring trip, and possibly long sleeve shirts. http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss170/hemiallen/IMG_1545.jpg Most of our shots were inside of the telephone pole seen between the shooting benche...
