Re: 35 Bergers
For less splash the only bullet I know better than a Berger is the 45gn hornady spire point.

Re: 20 cal bullet pullers
The kinetics save the bullet but what is it doing to your powder if it takes 10 or so good whacks? Just something to ponder.

Re: Where 2 go from here?
You'll think I'm crazy. For those using viht powders keep a close eye on the expansion of your necks. I've used 133, 135' 530, and 140. Had inconsistent neck expansion with all even after annealing and buying new brass. 140 seemed the best for neck expansion but 135 had the most promising accuracy. ...

Re: Powder vs Bullet
I think a good example is Berger says 8208 XBR max load for 35gr is 26.3. Hodgdon says starting load for 8208 35gr Berger is 27. That to me that is a large discrepancy. I'm just thinking out loud here. That is a large discrepancy. Go with Hodgen. IME some of Bergers data is low enough to be dangero...

Re: Can I safely extrapolate 1 caliber to another
Fwiw here's what I looked at http://saubier.tempwebpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21089 Looked to me like Varget and slower is what's working. While comparing similar case capacity is useful we cannot forget the smaller bore will have a large effect on pressure, especially with the faster burning p...

Re: Can I safely extrapolate 1 caliber to another
The change in bore size will be a variable to pressure. Personally because I bite at math I would compare any load data you have with the 17 Tac with a similar burn rate and extrapolate from that with a good safety factor added. I did a quick search on the 17 tac load data and BM seems to be a prett...

Re: Remington primers
Seems to me he's saying if he fully seats a rem he gets failures. Left a little proud they work. Just the way I read it perhaps.
Excessive headspace coupled with hard primers causing insufficient strikes?

Re: Issue with CFE223
I completely agree that 748 does that job beautifully!! As you pointed out, CFE has higher Tin/Bismuth compounds, as it comes from SMP842. Which is General Dynamics propellant for the Military Non-Toxic(all copper) 5.56 nato ammo. 748 is VERY close in characteristics to the 846 line, just contains ...

Re: Issue with CFE223
CFE is nothing more than good ol w-748 with even more anti copper fouling additive added. Not quite, that is a canister blend of SMP842, 748 is a variation off the WC846/844 family. Yeah your probably right. That was some bad choice of words on my part. I have 0 knowledge of what family of blends C...

Btw and fwiw there's no such thing as a stupid question when your hobby is igniting small amounts of gunpowder in front of your face

Re: Stupid question - consistency vs accuracy?
Accuracy is a loads potential to group accurately. Wether it shoots to the same point of impact as another load is irrelevant. That's why there's adjustments on the scopes:) Consistency is a loads ability to produce the same size groups repeatedly day after day without unexplained fliers. Of course ...

Re: brass problems
Option 3 is your best bet if possible. Keep those lugs well greased. In all my savage rifles I set head space to a crush fit on virgin brass. This makes using various factory ammo problematic but I seldom buy factory ammo anyway. They go in tight but extract like butter. The shoulders pull back as t...

Re: brass problems
If I'm reading your post correct you have two boxes of hornady factory ammo, 40 pieces. Some fit tight some will not fit at all. 40 rds is not much of a loss IMO but that's just me. As future trades stated it is possible to bump shoulders on loaded ammo but obviously not recommended. I've done it an...

Re: Issue with CFE223
Different weight bullet, different powder charge, different fouling condition.
See how many rounds it takes for accuracy to go south, if it ever does that is.
