Re: Looking for Browning A bolt in .204

The 1-10 twist will shoot the 32's into tiny bug holes in my 20 Tac. If you like the Thompson, I would not let that hold me back. It will also shot the 40 vmax better than most 1-12 twists.

Re: Interpreting Groups

A goodly amount of the variations are shooter error. If I am not patient in my setup, I can get either horizontals and/or verticals. Seems like after I have been getting quite a bit of trigger time, my techniques get better and then the groups shrink. I think if you nose around on SniperHide(just go...

Re: Developing 20 Tactical Loads

Yes Glenn, that is a good starting load. Some days I think we are just blessed. Every time I shoot a good group, it reminds me of the guys I used to shoot with 30 some years ago. They were shooting .25 groups with anything from a 223 up to magnums. Thought I would never get to the place where I coul...

Developing 20 Tactical Loads

Sometimes it is hard to understand why one particular load just shoots tighter groups. Anyone who thinks it is easy, needs to think again. Last fall, I had a mini Mauser rebarreled to a 20 Tac. Used a PacNor barrel, 1-10 twist. The gun has shot 32 VMax into .250's but had never tried 40 VMax with Be...

Re: Optimal twist rate for 40 gr. bullets?

I have a 1-10 with a 20 TAC and it shoots 40 vmax very well. Haven't had the weather to fine tune the load but shoots about 1/2 with a random load. I bought a PacNor barrel and had it put on my action. Very happy with how it shoots. I see an advantage for the 204 using a 45 gr. bullet with a 1-10 as...

Re: what's your favorite 204 coyote bullet?

I had a new barrel put on a Mini Mauser late last fall. Used a 1-10 PacNor barrel. Haven't done too much work with it yet, but both the 32 and 40 gr. Vmax shoot very tight. My chrono also took a dump so velocity is unknown at this time. By the way, Bob Green did the work and it is a 20 Tactical. It ...

Re: RIO, Question

Thanks Rick. My chrono burped also even though I haven't replaced it. An increase in velocity would be of some help out to 200 yards. Just might give the Barnes 30 gr.

RIO, Question

Since you brought up the K hornet using 30 gr. Barnes bullets. Would you care to expound on the results you have gotten with them accuracy wise? Just curious, as my CZ Hornet is so accurate with 40 Vmax bullets at 3000 fps. Interested in the gain in velocity you found.

Re: Skippy is up!

Rick, last year I shot 57 on the first trip(with ony 5 misses)and 8 on the second. My shooting partner shot 12 on the second trip. Typically, we will shoot over 50 per year in two trips. Because we don't start until late may, we just have lots of young ones for targets. We are not as good a shots as...

Re: Skippy is up!

My good shooting buddy in Klamath Falls, saw his first rockchuck in the middle of January. He says everyday that is halfway decent that same chuck is out sunning himself on a rock pile. We won't hunt them until the middle to the last of may, so there will be more targets with the young running aroun...

Re: Mounting scopes to detect barrel misalignment

My experience over the years, is that most all of these over the counter guns have some kind of problem. On SniperHide.com, those guys have found that 1 in 4 Remingtons are substandard and need a lot of work. So to have expectations that one can mount a scope and shoot small groups can be very frust...

Re: Mounting scopes to detect barrel misalignment

Your friend will have to shim the rear base. If he has a collomator, he can trial and error the thickness of the shim until the elevation looks about right. I had to do that very thing on quite a few guns with Leupold scopes in particular. They Vari X 1 scopes did not have much adjustments in the va...

Mounting scopes to detect barrel misalignment

Something I have noticed over the past 50 years, that when mounting a scope and having to do lots of windage adjustments, There could easily be a problem with the chamber/barrel not parallel with the receiver. Receivers are drilled in line much better today so the receiver may not be the problem. I ...

Re: new remington 700 and 40 grain v max not grouping at 100 yds

I have read so many excerpts of the heavy vmax not shooting, that when I had a new 20 tactical built, I used a 1-10 barrel from PacNor. It will shoot 32's into .300 consistently and think it will shoot the 39-40 grainers as well. I have never tried the 39-40's in my 700 as the 32's shoot so well.

Re: What was your most memorable day?

I had been hunting a ranch is S. Oregon since 1990 for sage rats. By accident and boredom in the middle of one hot day, we discovered the number of chucks that inhabited this ranch. While glassing, we saw a dozen or so chucks that would not have been seen without the spotting scope. Thus started a n...
