Re: Lets test your diagnostic know how!!!!!

Glen I took the cz out yesterday to see what it would do with 40 Sierra Hornet bullets. To my surprise, it shot into .400 at 112 yards. On top of that, the velocity was 3800 fps with the above bullet. I really questioned if the 1-9 twist would over stabilize those thin jackets bullets and blow them ...

Re: My "New" CZ Hornet

Just so you know, some of us have been getting some relief on the weather. I took the hornet out yesterday and today and have come to conclude, it shoots better than me with little gun and 40 grain Sierras.

Hope your weather breaks soon, as you might get into depression.

Re: New CZ 452 in .22 LR

I am envious Steve. A good shooting 22 LR is an absolute blast in my opinion. I am hoping to put together 3 good weather days around mid march. Very hard to find in mid march. The CZ 22's are excellent guns but you need more clips. I have two 25 and two 10 shot clips for my 77 and 10/22 and can't fi...

Re: Lets test your diagnostic know how!!!!!

Glenn, you hit the problem first time. It was the magazine box and it was bottoming out before the action was securely seated in the stock. It could not be much, as the most of the groups were less than two inches. I releived the top of the magazine box about 1/16" and it immediately started sh...

Lets test your diagnostic know how!!!!!

I recently bought a CZ 223 Varmint with a Kevlar stock. Here are some of the clues of what it was doing and later on an explanation of what I found. Groups were 3/4" to 2". With a cold barrel, it would shoot smaller groups and when warmed, they increased in size. The scope setting never ch...

Re: its official;

Cracker, I feel your pain. Whom ever said, "getting old is not for sissys" was right. I have not had the broken bones, but realize every day what is in store for me as I age. My shooting partner, age 71 had back surgery in late Dec. He is tough as heck and will be shooting birds soon. I ho...

Polishing Trigger sears

After adjusting the trigger on my CZ, I could still feel grit in the let off. Since the CZ trigger is quite open, I took some JB bore cleaner and put it on the surfaces. I suppose I worked the action a dozen or so times and then used aerosol brake cleaner to clean the surfaces. After looking at the ...

Re: Some GREAT news

Verminator, I suspected they should be coming out for short periods of time. As to argue in support of killing rats early. We hunted early for several years on a ranch with 6 circles that was literally infested with the rats. Yes, it is Dennis's brothers place. Add lots of early shooting and a hard ...

Re: Clearidge Scope Test

Wrangler John, I have two different Clearidge Scopes. One is 6-20 w/milldot reticle. The other is the RF 3-9 version with adjustable knobs I use on my custom 10/22. I particularly like the adjustable objective on the little scope. I generally shoot rats while being mounted on my 4 wheeler. I noticed...

Re: Muzzle Brake for 7mm WSM

I shot a 7mm magnum a great deal when I was in my 20's, and yes I shot squirrels with it. It was my one and only centerfire rifle. I came to conclude that the noise of the muzzle blast was much worst than the recoil. Thus, the mag. went down the road and I shot a 270 from that point on. I think that...

Pistol VS small Rifle primers

I had some good weather this afternoon so it was time to shoot the Hornet. I did quite a bit of chronographing and was surprised at the results. Contrary to what I have read on many of the shooting forums, I found the small rifle primers shot just as good groups as the small pistol primers. In addit...

Re: rcbs powder funnels - static electricity

I just experienced the same thing last week. I just used one of the Cling Free sheets to wipe the funnel down. Problem solved. I also hung part of the sheet in my powder measure as ball powders seem to be suseptible to the static more, for me anyway. Solved the problem.

Re: My "New" CZ Hornet

Glenn, I read your post a day or so ago on varminter. I like mine and it shoots good. But, the one thing I would change would to have the magazine hold a little longer OAL on the cartridges. I did read on one forum where a gentleman removed the magazine block and modified it so he would seat bullets...

Do you think a 22 rimfire is a handicap with a good shooter?

The site is a little boring, showing the time of year it is. I just wanted to share what I have seen a good friend do with a 10/22. He is about 55 years old and shoots rats only with the said model 22 LR. He will give up most anything to go rat hunting. Here is mode of operation. His gear includes a...

Shooting Bags

Just wondering what type of material you use in your front and rear bags. I know poly, walnut hulls and corn cob is used, but what is the preference. I get very tired of carrying around sand filled bags.
