Re: Scope to match the Hornet

Rowdy, it is in fact a CZ. To me, it was a logical choice, even with the 32 MM objective. Some of us old men don't get out at daylight to shoot so light gathering is not an issue. I have a number of other small bore rifles that I can use with much larger scopes for when the hornet is not approriate....

Scope to match the Hornet

I have been struggling with the thought of putting a large scope on my new Hornet since I bought it. I wanted something small enough to not over power the small action/gun as the gun will be carried a lot this next season. After visiting SWFA's site, I found a Burris 4 1/2-14 with a Ballistics Plex ...

Re: Crowns

Currently there is a 10X leupold on the gun. It is one of the first they made and I was thinking of sending it in just to be checked. After all it is over 30 years old. I have not touched the crown yet but will redo it in this next week. I doubt the gun has over 600 rounds thru it even though I have...

Crowns

I have a mini Mauser in 223 that has lost some of its accuracy even though it does not have that many rounds thru it. My question is, how common is it for the crown to go bad just from shooting alone? It hasn't given up too much accuracy, but certainly not up to what it was. The barrel is free of co...

Re: 270 loads

AC When I first started getting serious about hunting and reloading, I knew I lot of very dedicated hunters of both deer and elk. They all told the same story, that the Sierra bullets just opened too quick. To the man, they said they would never again hunt with those bullets. Being young, it made an...

Re: 270 loads

I hunted with a 270 from the mid 60's until I quit hunting in '87. I bought one of the first Ruger 77's and it was a struggle getting it to shoot under 1.5". I finally settled on a 140 gr. Hornady with H4350 and it shot well. Also got excellent results with 130 Sierra bullets with H 4831, altho...

Re: 700 sps rem 204

My suggestion is you send it back to Remington. My exact model had a bad crown and I was able to recrown it myself. Let them fix their own screwups.

Gube, I would bet that to the man, everyone on the board is a little envious of your situation and good fortune. I just love seeing the pictures and your informing us of what you are shooting.

Re: Shot the CZ Hornet today.

Rick, I am not much for posting pictures. I don't know how and not sure I want to go thru the host programs. I did take pictures of the gun though but would have to send them direct to someone who would care to post them. I think the hornet will be a favorite for those rats out there between 100-150...

Re: Shot the CZ Hornet today.

I finally got out christmas day to shoot the Hornet. It was mid 30's with a bone chilling wind and I was cold quickly being out in it. The 35 grain Vmax shot .650 at 100 yards while the 40 grain Vmax shot .600. Pretty good for the weather and a new gun that is out of the box without working up a load.

Re: Quagmire

Doobie, I tend to concur with your gunsmith about the Remingtons. Let me just tell you what I had to replace on my Remington 204 I bought last spring. Firing Pin assembly- I was getting hangfires Recrown the barrel- It shot all over the place New Trigger- The pull varied from 3 1/2-almost 5 lbs. Plu...

CZ Barrels

After shooting some 25 rounds thru the CZ hornet, I have been examining the fired cases. It is not apparent, even under a magnifyer, that the cases have been fired. I have read that CZ uses the Hammer Forged method to make their riflings along with the chamber. This is, as I understand done in a sin...

Re: bedding a savage / suggestions please

6mm benchrest site has an extremely good article with pictures about bedding. The reason I bring it up, is that the fellow does not use the action screws when bedding. He uses electrical tape to hold the action/barrel in the stock. I have tried it and it works better than any other method I have tri...

Re: Shot the CZ Hornet today.

Rick, thanks for the kind words and information. One of the reasons I always start below maximum, is I don't want excess pressures. As I have said before, I have less concern for velocity than I do for accuracy. All I can think of is shooting rats and chucks this coming spring. I have a place down a...

Shot the CZ Hornet today.

Well, I am too darned old to chase women any longer, although I still like to look. So there are not too many things that get my adrenaline going. But today, the little Hornet showed me something I haven't seen in quite a while. The little gun shot .200 group with 40 grain VMax and .250 with a 35 gr...
