Re: Help me find my Cooper

Came to pretty much the same conclusion, Mike. I know that that laminated stock would start reminding me too much of my cheap Savage 40 Hornet after a while. Plus I'd worry just as much about that barbed-wire scratch as I would on a quality solid-wood one; laminate will mar almost as easily, even th...

Re: Help me find my Cooper

Not trying to hijack thread, but does anybody own a Varminter with a laminated stock; how do you like it? I was looking for a Phoenix Model 38 (V) in .221 Fireball. Might have found a .221 but it has laminated stock, a type which I have never been crazy about. This will be an "everyday" ri...

Re: CZ 527 rings

If you don't mind vertically-split rings, Warnes are another option; they have torx screws, too. I went with mediums on my 527 after having the bolt handle modified. www.jamescalhoon.com

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

When you consider the excellent craftsmanship and materials in a Cooper, then consider 'free' replacement barrels to the original owner, it makes for some serious consideration when a new rifle is on the horizon. :chin: It makes Cooper the absolute best deal in firearms as far as I'm concerned. :D ...

Re: CZ 527 American 221 Fireball.

I have one. A good shooter out ot the box, I got about 3/4" average without using the set trigger and the factory Remington Accutip 50 gr. ammo. Haven't handloaded any FB's yet, but sure do like the heavier bullet on game. As far as the stock goes, I've heard the FB's, for whatever reason, got ...

Re: Nikon Buckmaster Problem

I have that scope. Ran it a year on a .204 with no problems. Now going on 3 years with just an eyepiece focus ring that I have to screw back out everytime the lense covers come off. I like the quality feel and the glass of these scopes; don't care for the "tunnel vision" and have noticed w...

Re: Super accurate factory 204? Your opinions?

Cooper sounds like the best of "factory" and "custom" worlds to me. If the (rare) one doesn't shoot to your liking, just send it back and they'll fix it; try that with some of the big names. Mine in .204 came with a 1-hole 3-shot (handload) test target, although they've run a pri...

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

Uh oh...this Cooper fever must be contagious. I'd kicked around the idea of adding a better stock to my Rem. LVSF .204, but really wanted more barrel yet still be "carryable". Cost of an H-S stock would have put the cost of that combo in the range of a new VSSF-II or a C-Z Kevlar 527 so wa...

Re: 1/22/09 coyote

Great story, Mel. Did you use the set trigger on your CZ to make that shot? I assume that Nikon is a 4.5-14X, as it has the low turrets; do you feel that's enough scope for a situation like that?

Re: Groundhoghunting in Ohio

Re.: hunting around Mansfield, are you talking www.ncovarmintexpress.com? If not, Mike Groff can fix you up, for a price. I have no idea what he charges for a "guided groundhog hunt" - I'm not making this up - but I do know some of his family from that area and they seem like straight-up p...

Re: Scope to match the Hornet

Lenard: did you say what brand Hornet you have? Sounds like either a CZ or Browning Micro. I'm having the same quandry with my little CZ 527 .221 Fireball. Want more X without much more size/weight, also AO so won't have to peer over my eyeglasses. I, too, picked up one of those Burris Timberline 4....

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hello! Another .204 convert here. This old (58) Central Ohio farm kid hadn't owned a true varmint rifle since my brother and I went halves on a .222 just out of high school. A few years back I started discretely eliminating groundhogs around the treatment plant I operate with a .17 HMR rifle. That w...
