Re: Alberta coyotes

Wow. 60 is just a small part of your total? Nice going! Coopers and C-Z's: nice choice of rifles, as those are the two I've settled on as my favorites, too. I have a Kevlar Varmint in .204 that's almost as accurate as my Cooper, so you should be good. Might be wrong, but I don't think the Kevlar was...

Re: Tikka t3 varmint vs remy 700 sps .204

Leaning towards the tikka t3 varmint blued or stainless, and I'm having a hard time finding one. I've checked with two local dealers and both said unavailable with their distributors Any one else having the same issue Jaqua's Fine Guns in Findlay, OH had stainless V's in stock a while back; they're ...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Welcome aboard, creed; sounds like a real nice setup you have there! The .204 will reach out farther, with even less recoil than the .223s. Plus, it works great on both groundhogs and coyotes. Just be sure to knock the snot out of those 'yotes before they clean out the groundhogs first.

Re: Leupold VX2 6-18

Welcome. I have that scope. Can't say enough good about it and works great on my .221 Fireballs but personally, this "old" guy's eyes would prefer a bit more magnification at the ranges the .204 is capable of. Plus, my only gripe about the VX-2 is - like all Leupolds - the field of view se...

Re: Opionions on .22 Hornet

Sold my .22H after getting .221 Fireballs; sometimes miss its mild report when shooting near built-up areas.
A .19 Calhoon Hornet - Ruger or C-Z - would be the cat's meow. ;)

Re: Lightweight rifle

....or the TC Venture Predator. Reputed to have a faster 10-twist barrel that'll stabilize the 40 grain bullets better. Price is good, also.
Me? I'd pop for the C-Z American, though. ;)

Re: What rifle?

Welcome! If you're wanting to shoot 40 grainers (recommended for coyotes), the TC Venture is the way to go. That's the only off-the-rack .204 that comes with a 1:10 twist barrel that is required to stabilize the heavier .204 bullets.

Re: Beanfield Coyotes With .204?

I've disembowelled some groundhogs, but never like that! One that did look almost that bad after being shot with a .243/58 grain V-Max turned out to be alive and tried to bite me when I went to flip him out of the way with a stick. I'm gonna grab one of those 10-twist TC Ventures next time on sale, ...

Re: Beanfield Coyotes With .204?

Well, I went out this morning to see if I could find a carcass, hoping a few rare days of hot sun would not only bring out the smell, but might dry and part the bean plant leaves for better visibility. Tried looking a little farther in the other direction than I'd been. Lo and behold, a few rows in ...

Re: Beanfield Coyotes With .204?

Bullet: 39 gr. Blitzking, out of 24" barreled C-Z. Pretty frangible, plastic-tipped; wondered if my LVSF loads of 35 gr. Berger pointed hp's, although lighter, might have worked a little better....maybe not. None of my .204s. shoot their greatest with weights over 39 gr.

Beanfield Coyotes With .204?

Wondering if the 20 calibers - as much as I love 'em - have enough a-- to kill a coyote after poking through a few rows of soybean leaves. I've shot woodchucks through bean leaves over the years but not through these waist-high bushes we see here now, thanks to heavy rains that are all too common ar...

Re: Scope Leveling

As I user Weaver-type rings/bases on all my rifles, and mostly horizontally split rings, the best routine I've found is: Lay small level across bases and tighten gun vise when bubble shows level. Mount scope loosely in rings. Most scopes have enough of a flat surface either with or without turret cap...

Thanks for the info. All the dealers in my area ran out of 39s. With tax, gas $, time etc. spent looking, a few extra bucks for shipping makes this a bargain for me.

Re: Ruger 204 predator series

Hey, Jim; Welcome aboard. I reload, but usually keep a box or two of every caliber/chambering I shoot around for "emergencies" or brass when it's hard to find. If your Ruger won't shoot the factory 40 grainers you'll have to go to the 32s. I remember shooting Hornady V-Max 40s when I got m...

Re: Anyone still shooting a 222?

Soon as I can get rid of an AR I bought (but haven't had the desire to shoot), I'm gonna hunt down a CZ 527 Lux, a Remington 700 or 722, or maybe a Tikka in .222.
