Re: My New-To-Me Cooper M38 MTV in 20VT

Just a follow up guys. After forming and fully prepping my brass, I was finally ready to test some fire form loads. I loaded two fowler rounds and three five shot groups with 32 sierras and RL-7 (17.4, 17.5 and 17.6 grains). It was getting into the evening when I finally got out to the range and lig...

Re: My New-To-Me Cooper M38 MTV in 20VT

Rick - My bad, I ment 200 cases!!! Plus the 100 prepped cases that came with the gun, that makes 300 cases for this little squirrel popper. For me, that is quite a bit! I think all the work is going to pay off on the target. Unfortunately, here in vermont all we have are tree rats and the occ...

Re: My New-To-Me Cooper M38 MTV in 20VT

Rick - You certainly influenced some of my choices :D . Perticularly, Leupolds M1 elevation turret! When I laser a target and dial in the turret, I am so confident in the shot. Turretless scoped rifles feel like they lack there full potential. As for the 20VT, its a winner!!! The recoil is nil, but...

My New-To-Me Cooper M38 MTV in 20VT

I finally got my hands on it today! It came with 100 pieces of formed brass, 24 of witch were loaded with 32 gr sierras and H4198. The previous owner took very detailed notes, and the gun came to me with 176 rounds down the barrel (many of which impacted crows, apparently  ). The trigger was ad...

Re: barrel length

zx10mike - Just to be clear, a 26 inch barrel is NOT inherently more accurate than a 24 inch barrel. Usually people go with a longer barrel to gain velocity, but as RIO found it doesn't always work like that. Another thing about a 26" varmint contour barrel is that it makes the gun very front ...

Re: barrel length

I shoot a savage 12FV with a 26 inch Criterion 11 twist barrel (204 Ruger). I have only fired 76 rounds through it, but man is it a shooter! With a mild load of RL-10x (24.5 grains) I get a little over 3700 FPS with the 40 V-Max. It is a bit heavy for a walk about varmint gun, but its so accurate I ...

Re: Cooper Vartarg.....

Keith - I know what you mean, I couldn't resist either! I would rather not tally up all the money I've spent on redding 20VT dies, neck turning equipment, a new press and a leupold from the custom shop . To top it off I JUST pulled the trigger on a lightly used cooper MTV m38 in 20 vartarg :D ...

Re: New Nosler Varmint Bullet - "Varmageddon"

I noticed that Nosler's Varmageddon 204 bullets popped up on midwayusa :D . They are not available yet, but a box of 100 is marked at $13.99! I might have to give these affordable little pills a try!

Re: Projectile weight consistency

Well, this is a little imbarrassing... I have recently started hand polishing my rifle brass. If you have read "Varmint Al's" reloading page, you know he discourages tumbling brass, as he believes it creates a hard rolled over edge on the case mouth. Although I doubt that this is a big dea...

I was disapointed that they are not offering 204 ruger Z-Max ammo! :D

Re: OT: Nosler (Norma) 221FB Brass!

Wow sweet! Wait, I just bought 200 221 rem cases... O well story of my life. I gave up on my dreams of a 20VT repeater, decided I wanted a cooper instead :D . I have a leupold vx3 6.5-20 lr on order, 5 lbs of RL-7, a full set of redding dies and I've been watching gunbroker and gunsamerica for weeks...

Re: Twist?

Hey Brad, it seems like your a little confused. The length of the barrel has nothing to do with bullet stability. I believe that the reason for most factory rifles being 12 twist is so they could push the light bullets really fast, because thats what everyone was so exited about with this caliber. T...

Will a Sako Vixen Action Feed 20 vartarg?

I am trying to decide which action to use for a repeater 20 vartarg. I am looking hard at the cz 527, but it seems that I could buy a Sako Vixen for a couple hundred more. Any experience with this action? Any pros or cons for either action? (I think I can live with the backwards safety on the cz :lo...

Re: CZ 527 American, opinions.

Does anyone know if the stock on the 527 varmint is the same as on the american? I'm still planning my 20VT repeater and I'm just wondering...
