Re: Speer, .204 39 gr. TNT
I tried these bullets with 8208 XBR and it was ok but not the cloverleafs I was looking for. I just don't think my Tikka likes anything but 32 grain bullets the Sierra 39gr BK didn't group any better.

WTT - 39gr bullets for 32 gr
I have the following .20 caliber bullets that I'd like to trade for some 32gr Speer TNT FBHP or 32gr Sierra BK:
42 pcs - 39gr Sierra BK
72 pcs - 39gr Speer TNT (flat base hollow point)
I also have 69 pcs - 32 gr Nolser Ballistic Tip

Re: I can't reload ammo this good . . .
I've gone over my reloading data and it seems I've been trying shoot 39gr bullets - both Speer TNT and Sierra BK. And I tried some 35gr, 37gr, and 39gr CRT bullets and nothing was as impressive as the Hornady 32gr factory rounds. I'm starting to think my Tikka's 1:12" twist doesn't like heavier...

1/2" squares on a 4 MOA target. I measured the group outside to outside with a pair of calipers at .774" and subtracted one caliber. This isn't my first rodeo . . .Zeus wrote:You've got me wondering, are those 1" squares on that target? How do you measure your groups?

I can't reload ammo this good . . .
I've tried several bullets and powders and varying loads but I cannot get my Tikka T3 shoot anything better than the factory Hornady 32gr V-Max ammo. I was at the range sighting in my new AR15 today and took my Tikka along and when I finished with the AR, I shot 4 shells at a fresh target at 100 yar...

Re: Speer versus SBK
Don't have any 32gr Speer (I was shooting 39gr). I did try some 32gr Nosler Varmint tip and my rifle didn't like them. My barrel is about 22 3/8" long and the factory Hornady 32gr V-Max was creeping up on 3900 fps on my chrony. I shot a 1 1/2" group at 200 yards back in January off the tai...

Speer versus SBK
Finally got back to the range to compare the 39gr Speer TNT Varmint versus the 39gr Sierra Blitzking with both shooting IMR-8208. The Speer is a flat base and it's overall length is at the middle of the BK polymer tip. The BK has a small chamfer/boat tail. The Speer had a tad more consistant groupin...

Re: hand loads vs factory loads for accuracy
I'm in the process of finding what bullet/powder combination my Tikka likes the best - seems the higher the powder charge/more velocity, the better it shoots. So far it likes the blistering Hornady 32gr V-Max factory loads the best . . . duh.

Found another use for the VLD chamfer tool - duh!
Awhile back I posted that I was struggling to load flat base bullets in .204 caliber. Someone pointed out I should use a VLD tool to put a slight chamfer on the neck. I borrowed a VLD tool and it worked fantastic. Recently I decided to revisit why the 62gr Barnes Grenades shot poorly in my .243 Ruge...

Re: Reverse engineering a factory Hornady 32gr V-Max
According to "Hodgdon's 2012 Annual Manual" it is the same stuff. In the lead article entitled Eraser , writer Bryce M. Towsley notes of the Hornady ammo that "Hornady was using a proprietary new powder" "that allows for high velocity [and] also reduces copper fouling."...

Re: Load Development Method
I can't figure out how to upload the pdf file but if you go to http://www.desertsharpshooters.com and at the bottom left click on the load develop manual, has one of the best "ladder methods" I've seen - if you can find a 200 yard range.

Best accuracy - polymer tipped or small hollow point?
I would think that a polymer tipped bullet would be more aerodynamic than a small hollow point. But when I look at the tips under magnification, sometimes the polymers are deformed or have flat spots on the tips, and are just not as symetrical as some of the small hollow points that appear to have a...

Reverse engineering a factory Hornady 32gr V-Max
I've shot several bullet/powder combinations and the Hornady factory 32gr V-Max still shoots the best of anything in my Tikka T3. I was wondering if anyone has tried to reverse engineer these loads? I can compile a list for the OAL and use my bullet puller to capture and weigh the powder charge. But...

Anyone modify their magazine to accomodate a longer OAL?
The inside dimension on my Tikka T3 all plastics magazine clip is 2.310" - which limits the OAL length I can use in .204. What determines this length is the "backstop" about 1/3 of the way from the end, that runs the depth of the clip. It looks like the bottom part snaps into the uppe...
