Re: Went hunting for Porky, but nailed Basil and friend

Red tape to keep rain out of the muzzle or some other function? It's an old Sambar hunter's trick. The electrical tape prevents foreign objects (and rain) from entering the barrel. The tape is blown off from forward pressure of the bullet traveling down the barrel – it doesn’t affect ...

Re: Trying to decide on what .204 is the best

I'm very happy with my Remington 700 VSSF II in 204. Although I haven't used it that much, it has accounted for fifteen foxes and a rabbit – all head shots. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a158/Bundypalms/Groups%20and%20Projectiles/204-39grSierraBKgroupfromVSSFII.jpg First group - out of th...

Re: Went hunting for Porky, but nailed Basil and friend

Same area, different day. Another Basil succumbs to the 243. This victim was on the run up a scrubby basalt rock laden hill and made the fatal mistake of looking back when I whistled. She was belted with the standard 85gr HPBT load through the right shoulder at 100yds. http://i11.photobucket.com/alb...

Went hunting for Porky, but nailed Basil and friend

A bit of a late post, fellas. A mate and I have been out hunting the hills in search of swine. We have seen old sign of pigs in the area before. Unfortunately the darn wind was against us from the start, so we had to swing out wide and around to get the wind in our favour. http://i11.photobucket.com...

An August afternoon harvest

Yesterday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to have time and go hunting Fallow for a bit of venison. It was a mongrel day with the darn wind blowing a gale, however where I was hunting there were pockets of relative calm. I came over a ridge and saw a Buck grazing at distance out in the open. Unfort...

Re: Hostility towards the 204

Fellas,

When I get dumped on by 22-250 drivers, I simply throw back trajectories and wind drift figures (204 vs 22-250) - they shut up real quick!

Tikka T3s are very popular in Australia. Very accurate and relatively cheap next to Remingtons and Brownings. There have been a number of cases where the front sling stud has been ripped out of the T3 Lite synthetic stock (not the varmint stock). I had the old model Tikka M55 (22-250) and M65 (270) ...

To date, I've only used the 39gr BK - very destructive on fox scones and decapitates bunnies inside 200m. I'm yet to deck a wild dog.

Lyn, the tack driving load used in my Remington 204 is 26.6grs of H4895 (AR2206H in Aust). Initially, I used Winchester WSR primers which cratered, now onto CCI BR4s - no problems.

This load shoots nice and flat killing foxes out past 300m!

Sierra 39gr BKs with 26.6grs of AR2206H (H4895) works well for me.

I use a Lightforce SL170 which is over 1,000,000 candlelight power. Just use the standard clear lens.

Basil Brush meets the 204 (photos)

Yesterday evening I had a bit of spare time available and decided to go out and spotlight a fox. It was a successful night with the 204 nailing a total of seven foxes. Most shots were around the 120m to 180m mark and all in the head/neck. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the first fox shot - he was in...

I concur. First use BC's Bore Superscrub and then leave WipeOut in the barrel overnight. The bore comes up spotless and is like a mirror!
