Re: Brass

To those of you who only neck size, I am curious, dont your brass become tight in the chamber? I find after three of four firings and neck sizing the bolt is uncomfortably hard to close and I must F/L size. The Reloader - after 5 firings on my current batch of winchester brass I had a couple split n...

Re: Question on Hornady's 32 V-Max 4225 fps

I recently aquired a chronograph (what a fun tool) and was able to chrono a few loads. Factory 32 V-max leave my barrel at an average of about 4100 fps, while my 32 V-max handloads pushed by a mild load of 27.5 grains Varget are going 3950 fps (winchester cases and remington 7 1/2 primers). Thats ov...

Re: Using bullet puller on .204

Mine has worked just fine for 39 grain bullets. I give it a couple good wacks until the bullet is almost out and then a couple light taps so it comes out gently and doesn't deform. I hit it against a wood block on top of a cement floor.

Re: 1/11 twist barrel

Wow thats quite the loaded round count you guys have! There's nothing similar to a praridog or ground squirrel to shoot here in New England, which is why I find those numbers incredible! Rick - A "no-turn" neck does sound appealing, although I would like to try turning for uniforminty as w...

Re: 1/11 twist barrel

Thanks for the info Rick. I've been doing some reading on Varmint Al's site about tight necks and I'm interested, and I also want to start neck turning. I'm not too interested in shooting factory fodder, so thats not a problem . I haven't been able to get to the lands in my savage and I'm sure I cou...

Re: 1/11 twist barrel

I too am interested in a 1/11 twist custom barrel. Rick , I have been thinking about getting a custom reamer made, but it looks like Pac-Nor's "204 ruger match" chambering might be what I am looking for. It looks like yours is working out for you! Is the throat shortened so you can touch t...

Re: 32 V-Max vs. 32 Nosler vs. 32 SBK

jlc204 - Thanks for pointing that out. I was indeed using Midway as a reference... I guess the difference between balistic coefficients of .206, .210, and .221 is not all that significant. RIO - I originally wanted to shoot the heavier bullets to get longer range and better wind bucking. I have don...

32 V-Max vs. 32 Nosler vs. 32 SBK

I have recently realized that my rifle doesn't like the 39 and 40 grain bullets so much, but shoots the 32 V-Max quite well at 3950 fps MV. I havent been able to shoot my V-Max reloads past 300 yards, but with a BC of only 0.130 the ballistics dont look great. I would like to be able to reach out an...
