I have a 6mm Remington in Rem 700 action. The action is not long enough for a 25/06 which I'd realy like. My bullet of choice is 115 Berger. So I'm down to 257 Roberts or 257 Roberts imp.
Barrel length can be from 26" up to 30" if needed.
Input on a good round to look at would be appreciated.
I have seen the 115 Berger preform in p.dogs out to 900 yards out of a 25/06 and was impressed.
Thanks

The 25-284 is the ballistic equivalent of the 25-06 just in a shorter package.
Short enough to feed from a short action Rem magazine? Not entirely sure myself. Definitely could be fed singularly.
With a freebore to match the 115 Berger it should work in a mag. (Not a Rem guy though)
One of my reloading sources shows the COL at 2.795" for the 120 Noslers. Thats gotta be mag length suitable.
The 257 Ackley Improved offers a pretty good power jump over its parent cartridge the 257 Roberts.
Theres also the 25 souper (25-308).
Have you considered jumping up to the 6.5mm. More good bullets to chose from. One of the major complaints with the 25 cals is lack of bullet selection.
You could be the first to try necking down the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum to 25 cal.

Savage VLP + NF 12x42 + 35 Bergers = .

Ray: Jo1911 is on the money. I'd consider either the 25-308 or better - the 6.5-08, or better yet, the 260 Acklely Improved, which is the same animal, just a 6.05-08 Improved (my personal choice).
Short action round, excellent ballistics, great brass and bullet availability compared to the .25's.

Re: What Cartridge in 25cal ??
Thanks for the input! 6.5 is real nice. But I'd opt to move up to a 7mm/08 here. I don't have a rifle chambered in a 25 cal or 6.5 cal. My heart is set on a 25cal. Thanks for your cartridge choices for a short action Rem 700.
Great choices
