Browning bar 30-06 pet load

Post by 2002silverex »

I found great advice for hand loading my .204 on here... It's not shooting 1/2" consistently!

I picked up a new browning bar longtrac 30-06 yesterday for my new deer rifle. I have never reloaded anything but .204

I brought the browning to range today with some factory ammo and wasn't very impressed.

Just curious if any of you load for a bar 30-06 or even just a 30-06 in general with deer hunting in mind.

Thanks in advance,

Tyler

I load a winchester 70 30-06 and have great luck with hornady 165sst over h4350. Neck sized winchester brass 3.210 col, crimped, cci 200 primers gets me 2844 fps and 3/4" @100 with 5rounds. Congrats on the new gun Hope this helps a little

If you don't have dies for that Browning, considering that it's an autoloader, you may want to consider purchasing Small Base Dies for the rifle to alieviate any possibility of difficult chambering of F/L sized brass.

I've been loading the shooting the '06 for decades, and woodbury is right; H4350 or any 4350 over a 165gr bullet would be my choice too, unless going after elk, then I normally use a Nosler 200gr Partition for the big boys. Good luck with the new rifle. :D

Yep...H4350 works in my 30.06 but do check out on the WEB if 4350 is OK for a BAR. It will depend on the gas system configuration. Some gas guns don't stand up well to sustained diets of slow burning powders due to higher gas port pressures. I know they made them in MAGNUM calibers but thats not to say the 30-06 has the same components of say a 338 WIN or 300 WIN-MAG.

Also, do pick up a muzzle guide to keep the crown in tact since the BAR gets cleaned from the muzzle.

Fortunately, my guns are working very well for 30/60. I think what can I help is by searching for solutions on the web.

1+ for Rick in Or. you will need the small base dies. The auto-loaders I load for, love and NEED them.
