.223 Rem-34 gr DT bullets

Post by btlbrn »

Any body loading these? How are they working? I could use some starting loads please. I have H-335, Rl-10x, Varget, 4198 and Benchmark on hand, but haven't found any data anywhere. Thanx in advance. :?:

I shoot the DG's in .204 and I am using 27.0 with W-748 COL - 2.279 and the measurement with my hornady compartor is -3.017 on MY RIFLE and I will dial in my scope with turrets out to 500 yrs. Using a range finder and they are spot on I am using a NOSLER- Hollow point data in my layman's 49'th edit. And per instructions to keep them under 4000 fps and they are very accurate at 250 yrds hitting a 1moa with a 10 mph wind using a savage model 12 VLP.

I'm shooting them and so far, I have them shooting into 3/4" at 100 yards. I tried 748 loading from 27.4 grains up to 28.1 grains with the 40 gr V-Max and velocities were way low (28.1 grains= 3605 fps) though accuracy was VG. I'll have to give it a try with the Dogtowns.

Steve. I have been using those bullets in my 204 and they have been working well for me. You may want to start just a little lower, but I use 23.3 grains of 10x and can keep them on a one inch sticker all day at 100 yrd. Also go to Alliant powder site and check out there load data. They do not show 10x in the 204, showing their Varmint powder instead. But I followed some other's on this site and started playing with 10x and in the area of the loads they showed and came upon the load, that I listed above, as the best in my rifle.. It has a 23 in barrel, by the way. Just a little ole reworked TC contender stainless, with a 6-24x44 Nikko Stirling scope. Bill K :D

Steve. I forgot to mention.Check the 204 load date, on the top of the page, they show around 21 grns for the 204. That is why I mention to start lower than my load and work up in your rifle. Bill K

Steve. First I have been unable to post for awhile. Do not know why, but all of sudden, one am the site kept saying I was not logged in and everyway I tried to do so, would not work. All of a sudden the other day, bingo, back on. Your guess is as good as mine. Second, I am using the same load of 23.3 10X with the 34 DT in my .223 and it is also shooting right on the spot. You might start just below and see how that load does in your weapon. Bill K :)

'jumper, I like the loose-leaf idea for the targets!

I've been scanning mine and saving them as .jpgs, but there is something sweet about seeing the actual paper... I just like it. Makes the memorys a little crisper or something...

Bow shot,

I have one for each rifle I load for. Lets me see accuracy with good and bad loads so I never waste powder trying the same old load that never did work.

Most recipes are transferable to like cal. rifles and twists.

A thing that I found out a few years ago about the DogTowns; they have a light jacket.
With a typical Rem twist(12-14) they are just fine, for those us us that shoot Savage's/AR's load slow.
The max RPM for those is about 260,000 rpm.
FYI
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.
