Having a nick from a bullet strike in the leg of your sunshade can mean:

1. Someone else must have done it.
2. It adds character.
3. It identifies the shade as "mine".
4. It means the shooting was so hot......(it was! I'm usually purty dang careful about stuff like that  )
5. It's time for another sunshade.

Yep, a nice .224" nick from a Nosler 50gr BT at 3,780 fps out of my custom M700 223 Ackley will do that. THAT target squirrel got a hall pass that afternoon. Now when I set that shade up at a squirrel or PD shoot, everyone knows it's a "veteran sunshade". ;)

Ha! Great advice all around! Today I would need a freezing rain shade if I was going shooting  . Just wanted to let everyone know that I have just made my purchase! Its a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x 40mm AO VHR! After much debate I decided that I really wanted the high end magnification and I'm sure I'll due fine hunting large fields for coyote. For hunting in brushy areas, I guess I will have to buy another gun :D . Anyways thanks for all the help and I will post pics of it mounted when it comes in.

I have a 6.5x20x50mm Leupold on my 22-250 More than needed for yotes. I generally set it on 10-12x The higher power is nice when shooting paper and I suspect prarie dogs for me yote hunting 12 x is max

An excellent choice, one which I highly concur. However, if you are going to carry more than shoot, weight becomes a significant issue. Custom hunting rifles are all about weight, unless you are a marine sniper and don't mind an eighteen pound rifle. Medium power 8x or 14x Vari-X III are always a good choice.

Here is my deer rifle, an old model 70 converted to .260 Remington.

Here are my hunting calibers (from Top: 330 Dakota, .260 Remington, .204 Ruger)
