Lighting for night hunting

Post by VAshooter »

I'm just getting interested into predator hunting mostly foxes and coyotes. my question is what lighting if any do you use for night time hunting I have seen people use a red or green light for foxes but what about coyotes does this spook them or should I look for other options. Thank for your advice

Can't help with the night light. Make sure your local regulations allow this practice. Big fine in many areas.

We use Lightforce 170 Riflemount lights fitted with rheostats. Works like a charm!

Killed 2 jackal last night at around 300y with this system.
Saving sheep one bullet at a time!

The red cree lights that Will suggested are great I got mine from Illusive wildlife but looks like the same kit. In the past I built my own but. These are less bulky. The charge on the batteries last all night no problem. You can charge them up in your car if need be. I like my light on the barrel. You will need a hand held red light and a head lamp. Go small and lite. Night hunting comes with its own dynamics. Good equipment helps to cut down on problems in the field at night in the dark have fun with it.

In Ireland the majority of predator control is done at night and we normally hunt in pairs. One man on the lamp the other on the rifle.
Most of the time we use a lightforce blitz with dimmer switch.
I never had much luck with scope mounted lights as they can cause glare off of the moderator making a shot impossible.

Best of the best rifle mounted lighting IMO you can't go past Wolfeyes or just for torches! Many different mounting systems. I have taken foxes out to 300-350 yards and can see well out past 450 meters with my Sea Lion Hunter! http://wolfeyes.com.au
