Anyone know if the Belding's ground squirrel occurs in the Yreka/Weed area of Siskiyou County? I'm driving through there right now and thought I spotted some mounds.

I am by far, no expert, but those little critters seem to be all over out northern and eastern portions of California. :) Bill K

Around there they are most likely gophers, you need to go further east.

Bodei is correct. I live in Weed, and often drive to Yreka to do some shopping. The mounds you see in the fields around these parts are either gopher or ground squirrel mounds. If there were beldings that close to me, believe me, I would definatly know about them. I drive approximately 50 miles NE to get into the Beldings. Been shooting them for more years than I care to admit!

Thanks, gents. I was hoping - it would sure be nice to have a straight shot on I-5 down to rat country. Plus, there's no more beautiful place in the world than the Shasta country. I swear up and down I'll move there if the State of Jefferson ever becomes a reality.

Kevin, hope we can get out and do some rat blasting when you're back in action. I still haven't had a chance to shoot with any of my friends here, which is frankly deplorable. :)

Best wishes,
Dan

Hi Dan. I plan on being back in action real soon! Big thing is the weather, the fields are really wet right now. Things are supposed to look a little better in a week or so. Keep in touch and maybe we can meet for a shoot. I have met with Trapper Dan, and plan on getting together with him, for anther shoot. Right now I am still having trouble with my legs, and my balance but am able to get on my walker and get around.
