squirrels in Cedarville

Post by brooksb »

Been shooting them most everyday, it took a couple of days after the hot spell for them to come back up, but they have, the trick is finding a field that's shootable. The numbers are pretty typical if not a little better for this time of year especially considering the hot weather. Had some 100 count days and some less. Only shooting the 17 as gunsmith has the 204 for a new barrel. I'm alone so no yours truly in the pics just a local taking a nap on the tail gate. Wife and I are staying here till the ammo runs out, Cedarville is a good place hang out besides.

Glad to see somebody is still getting some good ground squirrel shooting. Here in so. west Idaho they have gone down for this year. We won't be seeing them until late Jan. or early Feb. Those are some big squirrels, quite a bit bigger than the squirrels here. Ours are the Piute squirrels, known locally as whistle pigs, one of the smallest species. We had some pretty good shooting this year but not as good as some years in the past. In the past I have had some one brick days with my 10/22. We're going to take a trip up to the high country tomorrow to shoot Columbian ground squirrels. They are quite a bit bigger than our little Piutes. Hopefully we'll get a couple rock chucks too. Keep up the good shooting and have fun.

Here's another picture showing the mountains to the west that separate Surprise Valley from the rest of Ca.

That is and always has been a very nice area, and shooting can be found. Also some decent fishing in the area, to also pass the time, but also add some variety to the camp meal. :D :D Have fun there and the surrounding area. Bill K. ( You know you can also drift into NV and shoot some coyotes without a NV lic, as long as you don't take or remove the carcus/pelt. )

That is great, you are having just too much fun. But that is what it is, right ? Bill K :) ( by the way, have you stayed at or taken in the hot springs/tubs ? Or are they still open for business ? )

Surprise Valley Hot Springs is open and seems to be doing a brisk business, been once this trip, maybe once more. Used to go to one South of Eagleville.
