Drove around some new country right after the kids got on the bus not to far from home and wanted a few doves for dinner, didn't work out that way but I'll trade that for a few hours of gopher shooting. .204 with 39 gr blitzking's over IMR XBR 8208. Went 11 for 13. Wind was staring to affect hold and blood sugar was a bit low. Shakes started. Not much for breakfast and an hour or two past dinner (Or lunch to you hippies out there).Great weather finally and took off leaving a few for seed.

SecretCode, fifteen FEET?!

I hope for that task on that 13-lined squirrel you used your pistol and NOT your rifle!

When the little buggers pop up out of their hole while we're using our CF rifles off the bench, it's always a .22LR (or whatever) pistol to make it sporting. Out to around 50 yards, it's always a pistol shot, and NOT a rifle.

You get the idea, you're givin' us a bad name blasting rats at foot-stomping distances with a CF rifle!
I'm joshing you of course, but consider packing your pistol next time you're out. You'll have more fun, still smack those grass rats, and have 'worthy' stories and pics as a result. Just a thought...... :chin:

Normally I do Rick. It was just one of those things. Ruger mkiv hunter is usually on deck but never even grabbed it that morning. Rolled to a stop and looking with the bino's out for more targets and heard the grass rustling at the base of the fenceline with and open window. Was more surprised to see he never really ran away. His holes were right there.

And besides, how else is a guy going to get any dope on all ranges if ya don't at least practice when a target presents itself. Even the dumb ones!

Well, I suppose, but at 15 FEET, I've never needed a dope chart....... :chin: But I'll freely admit that we all love the dumb ones that give us targets designed just for a handgun! Very considerate, right?

Best to keep that Ruger MK-IV with your other rat shooting gear for those opportunities....mine always are.
A random pic of my bench during the daily rat-attack.....note what's handy laying there for the 'golden opportunity'?

And if not laying on the bench being all handy, either a rimfire revolver or one of my 1911's with a 22LR conversion mounted is always nearby:

For me, having a rimfire handgun handy when out for Skippy and his pals is literally half the fun. Maybe it's just me........ :007:
