No Deer but Birds?

Post by SecretCode »

Well as the title state. My FIL and the Boss Lady went nil on the there does tags. Practice and more Trigger time will be in order for next summer. The mild winter we had resulted in an increased number of pheasants. After busting through the thick stuff and anywhere we usually find deer I noticed that there was a need to bring a shotgun out with the next time we made it out. Second weekend of deer season was missed due to a family vacation in Mexico. The last weekend was worth it with above normal highs and blue sky's and birds filling them with every other field walked.

My son who will be 9 in December is really taking to being out with me and told Mom that he cant wait to hunt when it's legal for him to do so.
If that doesnt make a Dad proud than I'm not sure what will. We got all these with no dog. Luck and hard work.

had a similar hunting trip last year and it was a miserable one. Lost a few birds and had a few holes in my waders, hard time walking and collecting birds plus almost everyone around us was sky-busting and claiming our birds.

Some of my very best hunting memories are of hunting ducks and pheasants with my dad. Good for you for getting your young son out with you to share what are certain to become fond memories for you both.

Good dad! :)

Always loved hunting birds with my dad. These days I love hunting upland birds with my son. He started when he was much younger, but now in his 30's he enjoys hunting birds, particularly pheasant with me and with our dog.

Anymore I generally use an 80-90 year old Remington 32 over & under 12 gauge with beautiful wood in the stock. I had been hunting a lot with my Browning Citori. My son was hunting mostly with my old (1969) Ithaca by SKB, 20 gauge side by side. This year he started hunting with a little CZ 28 gauge double. It weighs almost nothing, but still smacks pheasants hard. This year we haven't been out much. Winter hit early, dumping snow in November.
