New 17HMR Upper

Post by TEXAS222 »

Hello. I just received my new Ray-Vin 17HMR upper (ray-vin.com). I had Ray put a 10.25" Diamondhead VRS-T hand guard on it & with the 18" fluted SS barrel it's truly awesome looking. The Diamondhead measures 10.25" of picatinny top rail & 11.75" on the bottom because of the angular for end. I'll be using it on a Black Rain Nor-guard lower with a Geiselle SSA-E trigger & a Magpul UBR stock. I'll post a picture when I get someone to show me how & report on the accuracy.

Yes, I did look at Alexander then at Rimfire Central I just happen to see an ad for Ray-Vin. After researching both I decided for the Ray-Vin. The reason is I don't want to have to modify my lower so with RV you just put the supplied buffer & spring in and shoot. Plus I called twice & Ray answered both times and was a pleasure to talk with. He also does them in 22WMR.

Hey those are cool, I didn't know about them. I had ordered an AA 17hmr at one time, but they took way longer than their listed time frame and I cancelled as I was getting it specifically for a sage-rat shooting trip to oregon and it wasn't done in time. Let us know how it shoots!

Hi 204 AR, welcome. I put a Redfield 6x18 Battlezone scope on it & it shoots 1 to 1 1/2 moa. I might try some different ammo. Man, I love it, it's so much fun to shoot. At our range, at 200 yards our burm is 220 yards. 2 weeks ago my buddy put 10 sporting clay targets on that burm & using the 3rd hash mark in the scope on this 17 hmr, I was 10 for 10 shots. Not too shabby for an old man. I'm in the process of finishing up my new project, a 18" 204 AR with Wilson Combat Barrel. It's looking real nice but I bet I don't enjoy it as much as the 17 HMR AR. To everyone, have a safe great 4th of July weekend,

Hi Jim,
Just curious if you have tried other ammo in the 17hmr AR?

Hi Gary,
Yes I finally did, 5 different ones. The best groups came with the 17 gr. Remington ammo & I managed some 1/2 to 3/4 moa groups at 100 yards, again not bad for an old timer. Hornady 17 gr. shot well also. Hornady 20 gr. XTP gave me 1"+ but that's the bullet I'd choose to shoot anything larger than crows or P. dogs. I didn't have any Federal to try but I've heard all good about them. I think different lot numbers makes a lot of difference. A17 did not function well, I think they were too hot. Ray-Vin told me to put in a normal 223 spring & they should cycle ok. Well that's about it except that Winchester Supreme sucks in this gun. Have a safe great 2017!!!!!
