204 build complete

After scrimping and buying components during sales over the last year or so I finally assembled my 204 Ruger AR build. The barrel is a 22" fluted X-caliber 1/11 twist. JP adjustable gas block. Lapped Aero Precision upper and a 15" Noveske free float handguard. Carefully assembled by myself. All loads developed used either 35 or 40 grain Berger bullets. I can't say enough about the X-caliber barrel. I've got 2 and both shoot 1/2 MOA easily if I'm shooting straight. This 204 barrel shoots just about anything I concocted into less than 3/4". I tried 5 different powders working up loads, most shot so well I didn't know which one I'd settle on. I ultimately settled on IMR 8208XBR because the 35's and 40's shot that powder to almost the exact same point of impact, save for a 1/2 inch or so in elevation. More than one group came in at around 1/4" at 100 yards with 3 different powders. Now the Coyotes must pay. Should make for some interesting shooting. Stay healthy.

Congrats.

I've got a x caliber barrel in 20P on a R783 action, shoots in the .2 -.4 range with 32gr tipped and RL7 if I do my part.

I really like their barrels. I have other big name barrels and it gives up nothing to any of them. When they run a 25 to 30 percent off promotional I dont think they can be beat for $350.00 or so shipped.

You might want to give a look see at Ragged Hole Barrels and the Wilson's they put out. Good barrels and really good prices. Bill K :)

Bill,
They look nice too. Prices are comparable once you start adding fluting, threading, etc. Luckily we live in the USA, where we still have choices.

I've never posted a picture on these sites. Never sure how to. I guess I haven't taken the time to learn. It's a very nice looking rifle. I used the standard A2 stock assembly from my superbly accurate Bushmaster Varminter as a lower. So the gas system is tuned to a full rifle length buffer setup for now. It's amazing how accurate you can make an AR15 with quality parts and careful assembly. Even with quality factory ammunition they shoot so well.

In the .204 Ruger Forum within the top Information Box there's a link to How-To Post Pictures instructions. Really easy and you don't need a picture hosting website to store pictures on.

Crazyyote: Follow the directions, as Skipper said. It is easy, with this site as he has it set up. Here is a example of one of my 204's and a couple jack rabbits. Bill K :)

Wabbits? Did someone say wabbits?

Just for fun, here's some more wabbits, courtesy of a combination of rich alfalfa, a Cooper 20VT and Nosler 32gr BT's at 3,700 fps. This used to be a perfectly functioning jack wabbit prior to the intrusion of the Nosler BT at 226 yards while he was hiding under a sage:

And during a walkabout with our custom 10-22's, we cleared a hillside of the alfalfa munchers with Winchester Power Point HP's:

No matter how you slice it, rifles and jackwabbits just go together!

crazyyote: Posting pics is easy both ways. Use a hosting site, or follow the directions on the forum header. Remember, we LIKE pics! :D

That looks like a whole bunch of fun. It doesn't look like the 20VT and Nosler bullet combine for a very fur friendly couple!! Yikes. Nice shooting with the 10/22's. I have a nice one too and it's a lot of fun to shoot. I just don't use it a ton but it's a very nice little rifle. This site is nice, I wish there was more participation. It seems slow at times which is unfortunate. Stay healthy all.

Don't think too many of us worry about fur on jack rabbits, when we are saving thousands of dollars for the rancher/farmers on the loss of crops.
Those bunny wabbits eat a whole lot more than most think, which cuts into their profit. :D :D Bill K
