AR varminters advice

Post by bow shot »

Anyone have suggestions on purchasing and AR varminter? I see DPMS, Bushmaster, maybe Stag all have "ready to go" rifles.

My concern is this: I'd like something that has a good barrel not just heavy and long that looks like a good barrel, if you know what I mean.

Do any of the mfgs have a good reputation for producing good barrels?

'Excellent link, thanks muchly.

I'm thinking my choices are:

1) just buy a garden variety weapon onto which I would install a Kreiger, Hart, Shilen, etc., barrel and target trigger.
2) buy a lower (stripped or not) and go w/ a Rock river or similar upper and guts
3) an off-the-shelf varminter.

Work has been trickling to a slow flow, so price is driving my options around...

I bought a Rock River Varminter, sold the stock .223 Wilson barrel and put on a Krieger barrel chambered in .204 Ruger. There are probably cheaper options, but this one definitely drives tacks.

I may have to do this piece by piece as I sell things that don't matter to buy things that do.

I have used New Frontier Armory in the past. They are good to deal with. The link takes you to their lowers. The Aero Precision lowers appear to be good quality.

Talk to Mike Milli at http://www.dtechsuperstore.com/mili%20Guns.htm

I recently ordered a .17 Remington upper from him.

In addition to .223, .204 and others, he also has a line of "DTech Improved" uppers/rifles in .22, .25, 6mm and 6.5mm.......

A good guy to deal with, and has a blue ribbon reputation over at PredatorMaster forum.....

Just a thought......

New Rock River (RRA) 24" bull .223 wylde upper and RRA lower with the crummy trigger.

Got the lower from a local shop (NY), and the upper from a shop in GA. Hope to assemble things tonight.

I may work the trigger before actually shooting and working up the load.

Regret #1: wish I went .204 rather than .223, naturally!!!

Wow, what a solid piece of hardware! the RRA upper and lower fit together perfectly.

I hope to start shooting soon. Snow is flying today... super yuk. Maybe load some rounds up tonight.

beautiful machines, but I'm poor, LOL!!

1st regret being rectified now: exchanging the .223 upper for a .204.

I'm grateful for a gentle dealer: Phil Thompson at Hit and Run gun Shop in Tucker GA
