Quiet as a Mouse Around Here

Post by skipper »

I don't get it. It seemed like the forum was gaining momentum. Now, not so much.

What do you think it would take to get the forum off and running again? Feel free to express your opinion. If you don't feel comfortable saying something in public, send a PM. I'd love to hear your what's on your mind.

I check in every day hoping someone besides me has posted something on here. I try to to stimulate discourse, maybe I am not all that interesting LOL

We have all kinds of lurkers. Maybe the admins should send out a group e mail to all members and communicate that way to our members? A survey poll, an appeal for activity...not sure what

I really don't have a answer as to how to get more members to comment/post on anything. Seems to me that as I check in every day as some do, all I see in posting is about the same 4-5 people.
Eithers are busy or just don't have to add to the posts or conversations, no matter what the content is.
So, for those of us that do post on a regular basis, just keep doing so and maybe others will finally join in. :D

We are going to have to keep on posting and keep on commenting on each others post, hopefully others will follow

For sure. Maybe more are waiting for spring and more varmints to shoot and take photos of and then post. But in the meantime it sill is nice to keep some posts and information being seen to follow and comment on. :)

I like many others, also try to check in almost daily and provide comments on topics where I think I can provide substance to the conversation or the topic at hand. Admittedly, there are areas where I do not have the relevant experience and so I remain silent rather than speculate or ramble on without much basis. Oftentimes when I do have a question or a thought where I think the membership can provide their insight or experience, I will and do seek the collective wisdom found on this forum.

When I check in, it seems like there have been thousands of views at pic's that are in some posts. Are there acctually that many lurkers or do the pic's register a view each time they are scrolled over top to bottom and vice/versa.

Bill K is correct, currently the same crew hanging around. I Still love the .204 but like in the topic awhile ago someone stated, maybe it's time it's renamed to the .20 cal page or something else to include the other kids on the block?

SCode, not sure about views vs pics. Don't have a way to determine that, but the answer would be interesting.

Regarding the forum title, we've had all sorts of suggestions, many were good, but we mere mortals have no way of changing anything related to forum format. All the suggestions have been forwarded to the Admin, but nothing has been sent back down the pipeline. Stagnant status quo, but you are 100% correct in your assumption. I've tried to pump up the content occasionally to garner more interest with more pics and posts, but get crickets in return, or lame one liner responses. I'm starting to wonder if I'm wasting my time (hope not).

But more suggestions are more than welcome.

Rick, I for one do not believe you are wasting your time with your photos. I just enjoy seeing the one's you post, the areas your hunt and of course the acrobatic creatures shown.
I try to inject some photos also, here and there and wish more would also, along with info/comments on their hunt/shoot. So keep them coming. :D

Well I will stir the clear water a bit.

How do ya post a picture here?
Some formats are easier than others.
I am going to going to have some “stuff” dug out and could post some gun porn.

Had a little swap meet at the GC last Saturday, may have some stuff someone is interested in or looking for. Other wise it’s back on the shelf and in the tote for next time. Sold two scopes and some carharrt stuff. Paid for a rifle I picked up on GB by accident, yes accident. I bid low, what the stock was worth and got the whole rig, lol.

Need to get the 20 BR put back together and ready to get scope on paper.

Let me just say a few things here. Tarrin is the board Founder. 204Shooter, Brian, is his father and was the originator of this forum many years ago. He has the ultimate say in what becomes of the forum. He made me an Administrator a few years back. That gave me limited powers. Mostly I spend a lot of time activating new member requests. On a couple of occasions I have created new forums. The Members Lounge and the Small Caliber Forums were within my powers and did seem to gain more participation.

Speaking of views, we have robots on this site. Robots (Bots), adware and search engine bots. They can act to help with directing people here who are searching for websites. When you do a web search they contribute to the results. You can see them when you sign on down in the Who's On Line section. I just deactivated many of them because they count as "views" and they are automated programs so they may make multiple visits here daily. That may help us get a better idea of actual views.

I haven't heard from Tarrin in about a year now. I have sent him PMs and emails but he hasn't checked in since last February. I can tell that on the Admin Sister Site. I can see what the Moderators are doing as well. I don't know what has become of him. My power to make major changes is really limited because I don't have Founder privileges. He may resurface at any time, though. I hope he does! He seemed in favor of remaking this forum and changing the name. He even took a poll, like Rick mentioned, asking for suggestions for a forum title. I kept waiting for that to happen but he went silent right after that poll. There are some maintenance upgrades that need to happen to the PHP website software. I'm not sure what will happen if those upgrades are not made soon.

Bottom line is that I will do whatever it takes to keep the forum floating as long as I can. That is what he asked me to do. Other than that, I can only hope he returns soon. I don't know what happened to him and I'm worried.

Thanks Skipper that's very intriguing and helpful. It always blew me away with the number of views on some threads. I guess I had know about the bots (nothing more than what you explained) from other sites and searches.
