I wasn't able to post for several weeks when i tried to post the question below, I just posted to another area of this forum so this post is just a test to see if i can post here. In the interim Rick from Oregon answered my question through PM.

I've read different opinions here whether the 1:12 twist barrel will stabilize a 40gr bullet adequately, Is there a consensus on this subject? I don't have enough experience yet for an opinion.

I believe most have found that the 40 is touchy, but a bullet like Sierra's 39 grain and the 39 Speer tnt will stabilize in a 1/12 twist. If you are re-barreling get the barrel in a 1/11 and it will do just fine. BIll K

yes and thank you, that seems to be the consensus on the long 40grain Vmax. It looks like I have a shooter for the 39 grain BK with 29 grains BL-C (2), I started out with an OAL of 2.280" but am now going to try longer and shorter lengths if for no other reason an excuse to shoot, as if I need one.

I just ran my testing yesterday with my savage mdl 25 1-12" twist. I was able to get .33" center to center at 100yatds with 26.5gr H4895 40gr vmax 2.255COAL. It's certainly doable, but the only was is to test.

Just got back from the range trying out the Hornady 40gr vmax and H4895. I was really impressed with my results! .33" center to center at 100 yards! Tighter group than the 32gr vmax which gave me .41" CTC

Thank you JD! I was just curious to see where they were in relation to terminal lethality for coyote. Finally got permission to hunt 200 acres. A lot of nice coyotes/hybrids in North Jersey

Yes, accuracy first FPS second. Waiting to see some photo's of some of those coyotes, after you run a test on them.. BIll K
