Due to the powder shortage, all I could find was winchester 760. What would be a good starting load for 40 grain v-max and 39 grain Speer hollow points? Shooting a Savage Model 12 with 26 inch bull barrel. Thanks in advance.

What does you reloading manual show ? Start with one of them, for the the bullet weight, etc. you have.
Or if you don't own a couple, at least, of reloading manuals or book data, puruse the various sites and see what they say to start with, for a give bullet, etc. and Win 760. :)

Google "Win 760 powder in 204R" and you will get Handloaders, Pet Loads for 204R, it shows start/max for your powder, 40 grn bullet and others.

The reason you can't find loads for WW 760 in the 204 Ruger anywhere is because it's not suitable for the caliber. I have every loading manual available on the shelf, and just checked.....not one lists 760 for the 204, as it's much too slow burning for use in this application. You'd be well advised to hold off until you can find a more suitable powder....of which there are many.

You are jut about 99% correct Rick, However the one chart I saw did shot a start load for the 204R, but, as you said, not really a powder for this cartridge. He wanted some load info, and that is the only one I could find, for him too look at, if he will google it up.
He would be much better off, as we know, to go to a couple of other powders and hopefully, he will. Bill K :)

I went to Hanloaders- Pet loads for 204. The only Win 760 load that I saw was for a 24 grain bullet. Thank you both for your responses. I think I will wait, or find someone to trade powders with.

Very good and the best idea, as you would have to go to 748 Win for the heavier bullets.

As far as 204 Ruger powders go, lets not forget Alliant Reloder 10X or Hodgdon H4895. My pet load is 25.1 gr of RE-10X, CCI BR-4 primer, under a Berger 35 gr FBHP. (work up slowly from the minimum load in your reloading manual)
Then there's my competition load which is neither of these two excellent powders. Not to give away my competitive edge but don't overlook Benchmark OR Vhitavuori N330. Both powders produce five shot groups that you would not believe. Next Annual 5 Shot Postal Challenge will be spring of 2021.
