Powder in factory 40 Vmax ?

Post by CV32 »

Does anyone know what powder is used in the factory 40 gr Hornady Vmax ? I pulled one and its 29 grains of what looks like a ball powder.

From what I have gathered, they get it from Area 51.

I did a little looking.

The Hornady manual has a load of 29 grains using AA 2520.

http://www.accuratepowder.com/data/2520.htm

Is it the same powder???

The Hornady manual says that load will push the 40 grain V-Max at 3800fps.

When the 204 first emerged on the scene Hornady went out of thier way to let everyone know the powder used in thier new scorching rounds was a proprietary blend not available to anyone else. I seem to recall double based high on the nitro. Everything else was hush hush.
