Opening day fun in No. Cali. Front page news?

Post by ClaimJumper »

Got a call from a Farmer in Ca. and he planted a new Alfalfa field in Oct. 2014. The squirrels are already causing damage! Shot 170 rds. today in 4 hrs. Kinda slow for me but it was an awesome day 55 degrees, no winds. Enjoy guys. The Alfalfa was green already. My buddy Norm shot 150+ all in all great day in the fields.

Most adults were breeding already and totally brain dead to any shots.

01-10-2015 Opening day and we limited out....

It was a great day,

The load: Nosler 32 GR. Lead free bullets, X-Terminator, Norma Brass, Rem 7 1/2

Even though it was not in the "Condor" area we shoot the lead free bullets because they destroy so well.

Well there, Don.....it appears that Skippy was late signing up for Nobama Care and paid the 'fine'.

Looks like the perfect way to spend a winter day. Our rats are still deep down under sleeping, but it won't be long now........ :chin:

The local farmers are telling me that they are starting to see sage rats out and about in eastern Washington. Stock up on 17 HMRs and get to your reloading!

Shot yesterday in Southern Oregon and fired 460 rds. Many larger squirrels and what a blast. It's going to be a record year for drought, and squirrels are an indication of this. Last year we shot in Feb. and this year it's Jan. Long shot for me: 223 Rem 53 V-Max , E-Xterminator powder, lc brass, Rem 7 1/2. 397 yards with a laser verification. I walked out and lasered my truck.

They are out in good numbers here in Idaho too. I've been shooting them with the airgun around the house. I bought my wife a brand new shiny BR Pivot and all the bling (front and rear rest) this winter so I guess it's time to set it up and let her start breaking it in.

The weather here has been very conducive for the rats to come out and play. So I just had to take a trip to one of my shooting areas, here in No. Cal. Although I was not completely ready for this trip, no binos, and I forgot my Varminter rest, but I did remember guns and ammo and my bench. When I arrived at this field, I didn't see any rats out, no binos, but I got set up any way. Fortunately I had my Sinclair front rest and rear bag in the truck because I wanted to get out and check zero on rifles before making this trip. When I took my first kill shot, the rats were up IN FORCE. Had a really good shoot. The owner of the property likes us to shoot on his property, but he was out and about taking care of his chores, so he came to check and see how I was doing. I felt obliged to to take the time to talk with him. He is a real BS'r and I lost some shooting time, and after he left the wind came up. Normally I will keep shooting even if windy, but it was a very cold and bone chilling wind, I packed up and reluctantly made the trip back home. Also forgot my camera, so no pics!

Travelor,
Is there a limit on ground squirrels there?
, No it was a Joke...

Futuretrades,

Hey lots of ground to shoot in No. California but my friend shoots suppressed .223 and .204 so we prefer to shoot in Oregon when we can. About the farmer and BS mine does the same thing, I feel obliged to give him status updates on other farms and ranches we shoot also. It's time well spent and it may seem like it's cutting into shooting time but it's also good P.R. work. You represent all squirrel shooters and we should enjoy it while we can. This year is well under way for me and the rimfire only areas closer to home around Fort Rock/X-Mas valley have no signs of life yet.
