Hi, and thanks for the mebership of this great forum :)

I have now used 32gr Vmax twice for red foxes and they went quite far with well placed shots at close range.
Any recommendations of bullets for predators like fox? - should I swap to 40gr to get more instant kills?
Muzzle velocity is 3880 fps

We don't have fox but, the 35 grain Berger works excellent on coyotes/bobcat/cougar/badger. Used to use the 39 grain Blitzking. Can't prove it but I would bet money that they went to a thinner jacket a few years back.

Hello, and welcome. Just make yourself at home. 35 Bergers, 1st class. If I where going to use 32's for larger than PD's it would be the Nosler Combined Technology ballistic tips. Just my two cents worth.

I have used 32 vmax for red fox over many years and had excellent results with instant kills.

Can not believe they would go far with a 32 V-max in the lung/heart, if that is where you hit them. But if you want a heavier bullet, the go with the 35 grain Berger. Bill K

I shot a coyote with in 50 yds and he was crossing a small cutline and turned towards me. Lol well i shot him with a Hotnady 45 gr sp. I hit him in left front shoulder and the bullet past through him and right flank and left a boot sive hole in him. He didnt move an inch. But the again i ear holed a one at 185 yrds and that bugger ran in circles for 30 to 40 seconds in a circle with his pressed to the ground when lifted him up half his scull and what ever was in it was missing. That was a 40 gr vmax.

I'm using 39sbks on fox 100% effective so far!
Fancied trying the 32's for crows and stuff so I could use it a bit like a 17rem ... Less recoil an get to see more of the show!

A mate of mine uses the 32 Zmax on foxes and they make an absolute mess I just bought some but they haven't arrived yet keen to try them!

The Hornady Z-Max bullet is just a V-Max with a different color tip. I use both on our belding squirrels, with really good results. Really explosive results with both bullets. Keep in mind our beldings are a little smaller than a ground squirrel. Buy one or the other, depending on witch one is the cheapest! I am cost concious because of my income and availability, and the volumes I sometimes shoot!

Sako 85 Varmint pushing 35 Berger at 3865 fps tore this guy up pretty good, was about 70 yard shot. I have shot foxes with 35 Berger and not tore them up bad but was shooting CZ with shorter barrel and few hundred fps slower. If I was calling fox in all the time I would probably pack my 17 HH.

mvk,
I don't see why 32 gr. wouldn't work just fine on fox. If you're having good luck and killing good wit them then "if it aint broke, don' fix it". I've shot quite a few badgers with 32 gr. Varmageddons and it puts them down DRT. They are quite a bit tougher than a fox. I know a lot of guys shoot and recommend 39 gr. Sierras but I had a behind the shoulder splash on a badger and my buddy had the same on a coyote with them. So we quit using them for anything but 'chucks and squirrels. Just my two cents.

32 V-max will kill fox just fine but other than bait chunks forget the pelt. Dick

I don't have much experience with fox or coyotes but I've heard that the 35 Berger is tough to beat in that realm.
