cody robbins took his wolf with a 204 ruger . you think 204 has enough energy to take a wolf sized animal thinking of using mine for a mid feb hunt on them. what bullet would have best results for a wolf think a 40 grain v max would do the trick what mine shoots best right behind the should shot . i know it fragments all through the vitals on a coyote would it do the same thing on wolf , or those 45 grain soft points , my shot will be under 300 yards most likely 200 yard shot .

I would think that if you don't go over much over 200 a .204 would work. I bought a .243 for a wolf hunt that never panned out (yet); since I don't hunt game - only predators/varmints - wish now I'd saved my money.
Would definitely go with the 45 gr. softpoints, though.

I know many may disagree, but I'd prefer a bigger hammer for a wolf. 'Yotes succumb to the 204 well, at least so long as good bullets are used, but a wolf is a considerably tougher animal than a 'yote. They'll work, but personally I'd look more toward a .243 Win with lightweight varmint bullets.

...or a 30-cal SMK...
;-)

I would be concerned with an injured wolf coming after me, so I would be wanting something bigger than a 204. I would also want a clean kill rather than a long painful death for the wolf.

All about ahot placement at a reasonable distance. I shot a yote from 30 yds in front shoulder and it came out his opposite side rear hip and left a hole the size of my foot. It was a 40 lbs yote too. Sure hate for the bullet to pass through and it lye still till you close enough to it. Bring a sod off 12 gauge in case.
